This is actually only half of a chapter... Up to the point I stopped for now. Seven

It came suddenly leaving the villagers off guard. To the left of the village soldiers from nearby star systems began to prep their weapons for the coming battle. Bewildered, villagers began to run for cover as bright darts of light began to rain from the sky. By now the soldiers were returning fire at enemies visible only by radar. That resulted in a ship falling to the planet south of the military camp.

Ellona ran over to a fallen soldier and checked his pulse. Nothing. She was about to do the same for another man but he was disintegrated by additional laser fire before she could reach him. She abandoned what she was doing and began to run for cover. You can’t escape. Ellona looked around but only saw men and women scrambling for cover, some not able to make it. She began again as laser fire exploded the air around her.

“Ellona!”

She looked around to find her father in their domicile ushering for her to come. Before her eyes the hut seemed to explode engulfed in flames. “Papa!”

Give up. It is useless.

Tears streaming from her eyes, she ran over to one of the soldiers still putting up resistance. He glanced at her and continued to fight. She found another gunner slumped over in his chair. All of a sudden the rain of devastation stopped. Soldiers continued to fire into the sky. She began to run for the turret as ground troops began to appear south of the encampment. At their rate they would be there in a matter of seconds.

Haha! Do you even know how to use that? She found the trigger and opened fire upon the incoming skiffs. One in her reticule exploded. Oh well, your still going to die.

She looked around for the owner of the voice. The only person she could see near her was the soldier who paid little attention to her at first. He now gave her a quick thumbs-up. They continued to fire in the direction of the skiffs.

“Arhhhhh!” She looked behind her but it was too late. A man hit her on the head with his blaster. She fell from the turret chair as the remaining soldier was shot in the back.

She began to stand up as the man threw down his weapon and brought his foot to bare on her torso. He kicked her again, this time she coughed up blood. He said something in basic, the galactic language her tribe neglected to learn. He raised his foot to crush her head when a blaster bolt caught him in the chest.

Her sister, Tana, turned to bring the blaster to bear on another enemy and successfully took him down. Behind Ellona another blaster was fired striking her sister. She was dead before she hit the ground.

“Nooooo!” Ellona screamed and turned to the man.

“I told you that you would lose.” He said in her native tongue. He shot her in the chest.

The ship began to leave Earth’s orbit.

“That is what we came back for!” Jake yelled.

Ichiro sat silently beside him polishing the sword Toyama gave him.

“Ichiro, man you have some weird priorities.” Jake looked over at him.

“Give me a break. Besides Earth is on the way to Creed.” He continued polishing.

Jake sighed. “Do you actually believe such an ancient weapon will help us save your sister?”

“Perhaps.”

Jake stared at him in disbelief. “Honestly.”

“I’m serious.” He looked over at Jake in the pilot’s seat. “For instance, when we need to be silent.”

Jake rolled his eyes and increased speed. At max speed they should be there in three days tops.
