Episode Four – Friendly Ghost?
Yuki sighed. Despite what Luna had said, she hadn’t seen her since after school. Not to mention that it was the weekend tomorrow, so they had no school. This meant Rei had attached herself to Yuki, and was sleeping over.
“So, Luna’s still not here?” Rei asked, staring at the ceiling. It was after ten, and Yuki had insisted they go to bed. Unfortunately, Rei wasn’t tired, thereby making it impossible for Yuki to sleep.
“No…” Yuki growled. “I don’t want to be translators for the two of you. It’s bad enough I can see her, and that she forced me to introduce you to her…”
“Oh, feeling down?” Luna suddenly appeared with her head poking through the wall. Yuki flinched for a moment.
“Never mind, she’s back.”
“Oh, where?” Rei asked, looking around the room. Yuki sighed and pointed to the end of the bed, where Luna had moved to.
“Is there anyway she can see you?” Yuki growled.
“There are only a few ways; I have to be in an area of emotional importance to me, a very, very dark area, or the person has to be dreaming. You’re the exception of course.” Luna smiled.
“So the basement or dreams…” Yuki let of a frustrated sigh.
“The attic too… It has emotional importance to me, which is why I know that’s one of the rules.” Luna pointed out. “I only know what experience has taught me.”
“What are you two talking about?” Rei asked.
“Let’s just go to the attic… then you can explain what you were up to today…” Luna shrugged at Yuki, and went up into the attic, floating through the ceiling. Yuki twitched for a moment and turned back towards Rei. “Let’s go up to the attic; Luna says you should be able to see her there…”
“Really? Yay!” Rei jumped up, following Yuki through the door and up the stairs. Yuki sighed and followed them up.
“Wow, this place is neat!” Rei exclaimed, looking around the dark, empty room. She ran over to the desk but stopped when Luna appeared in front of her.
“Whatever…” Yuki sighed and stood in the corner.
“Good.” Luna said.
“I can hear you!” Rei exclaimed. Yuki groaned at her over-excitement.
“Yes. I wanted to talk to you about something…” Luna pulled her over to the side and started talking softly. Yuki just sighed again and waited for them to be done…
Yuki yawned and opened her eyes. When the two had finished talking, Rei had finally decided to let Yuki go to bed. But when she opened her eyes she flinched slightly. Rei was standing over her bed, looking down at her.
“What?” Yuki growled. She growled slightly when Luna was standing next to Rei.
“We’re going out today! Luna will be coming too!”
“No…”
“Oh, but you’ll go… otherwise I’ll sing in a high, screechy voice!” Luna cleared her throat and let of what could only be described as a banshee wail. Both Rei and Yuki covered their ears.
“Oh, what was that?” Rei moaned.
“You heard that?” Yuki asked, scratching her ears.
“Yeah, it was like a loud, high scream… but I couldn’t hear it… more like sense it…”
“Oh, I think she has some mile form of ESP.” Luna smiled.
“All right, I’ll go out with you two… where are we going?”
“A café?” Yuki said skeptically.
“Yes.” Rei smiled, taking her to the back booth. “We need to get you out into the world!”
“You’re plotting something…”
“No way!” Luna said nervously. They sat down at the booth, including Luna, who sat next to Rei and near the window. The waitress came up and the two ordered their snacks.
Rei got a chocolate malt, while Yuki got a small salad and a large soda. They had just started eating and drinking, with Luna staring longingly at the malt, when they heard a voice.
“Oh, you girls enjoying your brunch?” Kuro asked.
“Go away Kuro!”
“Um… no.” He slid Yuki over and sat down. She growled softly at him. “I have every right to site here if I want to.” He said smugly. The waitress sighed as she brought over a sundae. She obviously knew him by her expression. She quickly walked away.
He went to take a bite of his ice cream when it suddenly floated into the air, and flew at him face. He got a shocked look as his ice cream attacked him.
“What the?” Ice cream was now dripping down his face. Rei was grinning while Yuki had a smirk. Luna was standing… through the table. She had pushed the dish at him, obvious by the large grin on her face.
“I don’t know what happened…” He growled and got up. He suddenly tripped as he headed towards the rest room, sliding into a table and bumping his head.
“Ow!” He swore a couple times and made it into the room. Luna grinned and went back to the table. Rei giggled slightly, though not seeing it, knew it was Luna. Yuki just had a semi-smile on her face.
“Okay, now we just have to wait…” Rei said mysteriously.
“For?” Yuki asked.
“You’ll see…” The door to the café opened, and a familiar figure walked in. "Hey, there’s Gil!” Luna exclaimed. Yuki glared at her. Gil sat in the booth in front of Rei but behind Yuki.
“That’s quite a coincidence…” Yuki muttered.
“Isn’t it?” Luna asked. “Now go talk to him!”
“No way.”
“Come on!” Luna whined. She went over and looked down at what Gil was reading. “Mysteries of the Supernatural?” She read. “I didn’t know he was interested in that…”
“Had to be interested in it after seeing you…” He mumbled.
“Oh and why is that?” Luna asked without thinking. Yuki shifted and stared at Luna. Gil coughed slightly. “Wait… you can see me?” Luna exclaimed.
“Yep.” Now this did catch Yuki’s attention.
“Why didn’t you say anything before?”
“I was afraid you’d bother me…” Yuki made a strange, guffaw-type laugh at that. She sighed and went over to Gil’s booth. She sat across from him.
“You can see her too?” Yuki asked.
“Yep.” He said, still not looking up from his book. Luna just stood with her lower half hidden in the booth. Rei went over and joined Yuki.
“How come I can’t see her and you two can?” Rei whined.
“Some people just are more in tuned with the supernatural. Also, you can become more in tune with the supernatural if you meditate regularly.”
“You meditate?” Yuki asked. Gil nodded slightly, still reading through his book. “So do I…” He looked up, really looking at Yuki for the first time.
“Name’s Gil… Gil Grisson.”
“Yuki Luminaire…” Luna just stared as Rei got a little smirk on her face.
“Could you teach me how to meditate?” Rei asked, smiling with a big grin…
Somewhere in the deepest part of Luna’s forest, there was a place even she didn’t know about. There was a small cemetery with very few recognizable stones left. They were all about a hundred years old, left over from a town which had once been in the field of the woods, but had long since been torn down and deserted.
There was a stone that had just turned one hundred that day. And on the ground in front of it was a young man, lying on the ground with his eyes closed. He had dark, spiky hair that seemed to defy gravity. He was wearing plain black clothes. He opened his bright blue eyes, and sat up.
“Where… what…happened?” He looked around, seeing the name on the tomb stone. “Leon O’Neill?” He read off of the tomb stone. “That’s my name… on here? I’m… dead…” He stood up and looked around.
There were at least a dozen stones visible, mostly covered in greenery. There was a shack to the side, and a few wooden remains of the town. “What happened here…?” He shook his head. “I have to go this way…” He started walking into the woods, unaware that he was passing through the trees as he traveled…
Luna sighed. Although Yuki had talked with Gil, nothing had happened. Luna and Rei had both decided to play Cupid, since Yuki seemed so lonely. Rei had gone home, as had Yuki. Luna had decided to relax as the sun set. She quickly lit her candles and the few torches. One good thing about being a ghost is no one could catch you shoplifting…
She sighed and sat n the center of the light show. She looked out over the small pond and started singing. To anyone in the area it would sound eerily beautiful.
She suddenly paused as someone walked into her lighted area. She flew over, literally, to the opposite end of the lake. He jumped back, falling on his backside. She stopped a little ways in front of him.
“Gee, you can see me too? How many can do that now?”
“Who are you… and where am I?” Luna looked at the boy curiously.
“I am Luna…” She attentively reached out her hand. She flinched slightly as he grabbed it, and pulled himself up. “I believe I have some bad new for you…
Yuki was actually sleeping soundly for the first time in a while. She was having a dreamless, peaceful sleep when the blackness shifted.
“Hi!” Luna yelled to her. Yuki opened her eyes, staring up at her transparent friend.
“…Do you have to do that?” Yuki groaned, sitting up.
“Sorry to wake you, but I found something… interesting…”
“What is it now?” Yuki asked as she rubbed her forehead.
“Uh…” Luna moved over to the side, revealing her new found friend.
“Hi…” The boy said in a quiet voice.
“Alright, you can’t just go bring strangers into the house just because they can see you…”
“Uh… that’s not it.” Yuki sighed and got up, staring at the new arrival. “He’s a ghost.”
“A ghost?” Yuki stared at him some more.
“I don’t know why you keep saying that.” He grumbled. “I’m not dead. I mean, I can touch you so how can I be a ghost?”
“…I’m a ghost too.” Luna sighed. “Can you how him?”
“Fine… don’t know why I have to get dragged into all this…* Yuki continued mumbling as she went over to him. “What’s your name anyway?”
“Leon O’Neill.” He answered
“Leon O’Neill? What kind of name is that?” Yuki continued to mutter, half asleep, as she walked through the boy.
“What the?” He looked behind him at Yuki.
“If you’re done with your ‘ghost outreach’ thing, can I go back to bed?” Yuki didn’t wait for a response and just walked through them both, and then fell into the bed.
“Hey, what if she’s the ghost?” Leon demanded.
“Boy, I had to get a skeptic…” She suddenly grabbed him, and threw him through the wall. He tripped in the hallway, going into an empty bedroom across the hall. Luna joined him a moment later.
“This room is empty, so you can have it. I’m next door but always knock first!”
“This is a dream…” He muttered. “I’ll go to sleep and wake up at home… home? Wait, where do I live?”
“I have memory problems too… I guess it’s because you get forced out of your body and the shock puts you out for a while… Anyway, see you tomorrow.” Luna shrugged and walked through the wall into her room.
“A dream… yes, I’ll go to sleep now… just a dream…
Yuki growled as she awoke to a scream. It was, of course, Leon. Yuki sighed and got up to go see what the trouble was. Sure glad my parents and brother can’t see or hear them… I’d have to do a lot more explaining…
She walked into what was now Leon’s room, across the hall and one to the left of her own room, and saw him sitting up with a shocked expression on his face. Luna walked in a moment later.
“See?” Luna asked. Yuki just sighed.
“I’m really dead…”
“Yep.” Luna answered. “But it’s not too bad. Besides, you can stay here…”
“Wait a minute…” Yuki stopped her.
“Hey! Come on, he’s confused. I want to help him…”
“Luna…”
“Yuki…” The two stared at each other.
“Fine…”Yuki let off a long, drawn out sigh. “But you two had better behave.”
“No problem!” Luna said happily, jumping into the air.
“Great…” Yuki muttered. “My house is now becoming a half-way house to ghosts… I wonder what’s next?”
Sorry it took so long. I like this story, but it’s hard to write for ^_^’ Well, see ya next time!
