Elijah widened his blue eyes in mock innocence and surprise. "Give what up Rupe?"
"You know what he means, Elijah," said his other best friend, Sam Deeds.
"Yeah. You've been eyeing her that way for years. Face it, Madison Evans is not in love with you, Elijah Porter!" groaned their other and final best friend, Justin Adams.
Elijah shook his head and watched the short girl pass. "Yes she is. She just doesn't know it yet."
His three best friends breathed a sigh of defeat. They had constantly attempted to get their friend off of Madison Evans and onto someone else, but it seemed impossible. Other girls loved Elijah, how couldn't they? He stood a tall 6'2. He had dark brown hair with natural brownish blonde streaks, which he messily put into spikes and beautiful blue eyes that most girls would love to gaze into . . . Most girls, excluding Madison. She was a spunky girl with her own style. She had long layered black hair, which looked bluish purple in some light. Her original eye color was dark brown, but her contacts made them teal. She had dark skin, the result of her Hispanic father and Greek mother. She was short, only standing at 5'2, a foot shorter then Elijah himself, but she found a pair of Doc Martens that boosted her height to 5'4.
It wasn't that she despised Elijah, she didn't care if they were all friends, they were, but she just didn't like his type in a boyfriend way. His "type" meant, well, he was a soccer player, lean, tanned, and ever so slightly muscular. A jock in simpler terms. His best friends were somewhat like his. Rupert had red hair and green eyes. He was just as tall as Elijah was, being 6'2, and he played soccer as well. He, again just like Elijah, looked amazing in their uniforms (For the guys: long sleeved white shirts with gray vests and black ties and black dress pants, black shoes, and black dress socks. While the girls had white three-quarter length sleeved shirts, with gray vests and black ties with black pleated skirts, black knee socks, and black shoes. Their uniforms came with long black coats as well). He had a reputation of being a restless flirt, but Elijah KNEW that there would be someone who would touch his heart.
Just had hair the color of sand and hazel eyes and was shorter then his two best friends, being at 6'1. He was more poetic then he was a jock. Sweet, sensitive, and had a sense of humor just like his friends, only he actually cared as to people's reactions.
Sam had blonde hair and blue eyes. He was the shortest at 5'11. He wasn't too coordinated, so he didn't play any sports. He followed them. He knew everything about most any sport.
Madison and her three best friends were different, but not that much. Her very best friend, Laura Grint, had medium length, wavy dark brown hair and green eyes. She was the tallest at 5'6 and played field hockey along with Madison.
Kassie McCartney had brown hair and brown eyes. She was 5'5 and a dancer, always running off to dance class. She took tap, ballet, jazz, so many that she occasionally lost count.
Amy Greenburg had short blonde hair, cut in a pixie style, and blue/green/gray eyes. She was 5'4 and had the biggest sense of humor out of all of them when she felt like it. There were times in which she kept to herself and concentrated on her schoolwork. She was in the Art Club and took drawing classes at the local college to improve her detailing.
They all went to Elwood Academy, an exclusive boarding school. Elijah didn't want to go when his parents suggested it. He wanted to stay at a public school with his friends . . . until he got there. He instantly fell for Madison the moment she directed her teal eyes at him and told him to move. Rupert, Justin, and Sam were beginning to think his obsession was unhealthy, but there was absolutely no way to get him unhooked. She had mesmerized him, probably being the first thing he wanted yet couldn't get with a simple smile and turning on the old Porter charm. She was like a puzzle that he was determined to figure out, though that didn't stop him from dating other girls although his eyes were always wondering back on Madison.
When they had been put in the same house, he was positive it was fate. Even if she shoved him out of her room when he would attempt to kiss her goodnight, Laura holding back a fit of giggles.
"GET OUT ELIJAH!" she would yell, but he didn't care. He was in love.
"Oh Lijah-poo?" came Rupert's teasing voice as he waved a hand in front of Elijah's face.
Elijah snapped out of his daze. "Huh?"
"Daydreaming about your beloved Madison?" smirked Justin.
"And staring at her as well," squeaked Sam.
"Was I really?"
"Just look at her!" Rupert exclaimed nodding in her direction. She was sitting across campus, in her uniform, with her friends, just glaring at Elijah angrily. He smiled and said to his friends, "This is the year. I can feel it."
"You said that last year," Sam said.
"And the year before that," Rupert added.
"And every year since you met her in 5th grade, only different terminology as you grew. Face it, that girl will never be yours," Justin commented sighing.
Elijah looked back at Madison, who was now sitting alone reading A Walk to Remember. "I hope your wrong Jay," he said softly, still looking at her.
"As do I," Justin muttered under his breath.
