I used to pretend that I was a horseback rider when I was a youngster, but now all that changed. Y' know of the town called Phoenix in Arizona? That's where I met Diamond Shy. I think you'd like to know the story. So, It all started.
Father asked me to go get some wood down by the old wire fence. So I went on down, 'cuz if I didn't, I'd get hit very badly. Father doesn't like it when I don't listen to orders. He grew up from a tough family. Mother, on the other hand, was nice and kind. You wouldn't want to get on her bad side, though. When she gets mad, she gets mad!! Anyway, I was walking down to the ol' wire fence, when I suddenly heard a loud neigh. It sounded like the horses down at old McRead's farm. I walked up closer and I saw that it wun't no farm horse, this'n was pure Mustang. T'was pure white with black up just a little past each hock on its legs. It had three black hooves and one white. Its mane was a grayish-silver color with streaks of black. I was stunned by its grace and beauty. I walked a little towards it, and I noticed that it was struggling. Its one white hoof was stuck under the wire fence. I walked over and touched its coat. It neighed painfully and tried to run away.
I decided to try and help it. So I knelt down and tried to force the scuffed hoof out from under the fence. It got it loose and galloped out into the misty distance. I got up, wiped off my hands and gathered up some wood. As I walked back home, I couldn't stop thinking about that horse. I'd never seen a wild Mustang before, 'sept that one time Father and I were walkin' out in the woods. I was just a youngin', and I only caught it out of the corner of my eye. That one was a tan-ish, though. No, this horse wasn't like anything I've seen before.
When I got back to the cabin, my paw stepped out and told me that there was a bad horse on the lose that was reeking havoc on the town. He described it to me, and it was that Mustang I saw. I couldn't bare to tell him about it, I was afraid he'd shoot it if he found out. After all, there was a reward for its capture, dead or alive. As I understand it, Father preferred it to be dead.
The next morning, I woke up to a horse's neigh. I looked out my window and saw that wild Mustang standing there, rearing very loudly. I ran downstairs and pushed the door open. I ran outside to go and pet it. It didn't budge an inch. It stood there and let me pet it all I wanted. So, I decided to name it, Diamond Shy. For no reason, really. I just like that name. So, I decided to try and ride it, so I jumped on it. It didn't try to jump around and push me off, it let me ride it. It whinnied very loudly as it galloped around the front yard. I actually didn't like it when it neighed, because Father was a very light sleeper. As soon as I thought about that, Father ran outside, and saw me, and the wild Mustang.
" Tim! Get away from that horse!!" He screamed.
" No! I helped it. It cooperates with me like a brother!!" I yelled back. He stared at me, and he came up to the horse.
" Get off, Tim." He said to me calmly as he held out his hand.
" No!" I screamed. He lost his temper, picked me up, and threw me off the horse.
" Goddamn it, Tim!! Listen to me when I tell you to do something!!! The next time you disobey me, I'll thrash you!!" He yelled as I lay on the ground with a big bruise on my side.
" You already did you son of a bitch!!" I cupped my hand over my mouth because I'd get belted if I cursed to Father. He stomped towards me and picked me up by the collar of my shirt. He was about to drag me in the house and belt me, but something I didn't expect happened. Diamond Shy pushed my Father down onto the ground as I loosened from his grip. He got up and pushed Diamond Shy to the ground. He took advantage of the time, so he ran in the house to get his gun. He jumped back out and loaded his gun. He aimed, and shot. Diamond Shy got up and tried to jump at Father. Father shot the gun again, and Diamond Shy was down on the ground before I could get Father to stop firing.
That afternoon, I sat and watched as Father dragged Diamond Shy away to the town, where he would get his reward. I could barely even see out of my horribly watery eyes. Everything bad happened in my life, because of Father. FATHER!! I noticed that Father really didn't care about me!! All he cared about was himself! I couldn't stand it anymore, so I ran off. It wasn't long after I took off, that Father came home. He got out of his truck and noticed I was gone. He glanced around, and finally, he spotted me. He dropped his money and took off after me.
I ran and ran and ran. He kept on running after me. I knew he would catch up to me sooner or later. He was bigger, faster, and stronger than I was. I looked behind me, and he was gone. Before I could turn around, he caught me from in front of me.
" Where do you think you're going, Timothy Jonathan Weiss?" He said trying to catch his breath. I was almost too stunned to speak.
" I can't take you anymore! I just want to die and get away from you!!" I screamed as I tried to struggle away from him.
" I'll help you!!" Father said as he held up his fist. Suddenly, I heard a very loud neigh. A white colt jumped out and knocked Father over. It looked exactly like Diamond Shy. Something told me in my heart, that Diamond Shy had a colt. That's it! Diamond Shy had a colt!! I remember seeing something galloping with her in the misty distance when I helped her last night!! That colt must have seen me help her Mother!! Father kept on pinning the colt to the ground, but the colt just got up and rammed him in the side. The colt reared and pushed down as Father was underneath him, barely missing his head, but scraping his shoulder. Father pushed the colt off and got up. He hit the colt on the side with a very big rock. The colt stumbled, but stayed up. Its finishing move took Father by surprise; the colt planted its front hooves in the ground, and knocked Father to the ground with its hind legs. A dark hoof mark was printed into Father's forehead. He just lay there, bleeding to death. I hopped onto the colt and pet its silky coat. I started her up by kicking her sides, and we took off to my house.
In case you are wondering, that was the end of Father. I got to keep the colt, but I didn't tell Mother how Father got killed, or she might take Wildfyre away. Oh! Yeah. That's right! I forgot to tell you that I named this colt Wildfyre. And I still have this colt up to this day. For 18 years.
The End (a/n: not based on a true story ^_^ Peace out peoples! Please R&R!!!)
