My parents gave me all I ever had
A gentle hand to guide me through the dark
A roof and everything I ever asked
An ear for when my problems seem too much
On weekends we go camping in the woods
In summers we take trips around the world
On weekdays we bake cookies and play games
They're strong on making sure we stay as one
They taught me to respect and value God
And how to deal with those that blindly hate
That education pulls you from the dark
And fighting never works as well as peace
They taught me football better than most boys
Taught not to talk to strangers I don't know
And how to read the stars if I get lost
Plus age-old things like knowing right from wrong
We're not the Brady bunch or even close
Real families reach conflict now and then
But we know how to keep our home in peace
Communication leads to harmony
We minded our own business, led our lives
And happily we marched from day to day
But our lives would not say so still and quaint
Because one day the law stepped in to see
The way we ran our home, they judged it all
And scooped me up, it's best for me they claimed
I told them no, they said I had no choice
The tears I shed did not move them at all
And out the door we went to my new life
I know my parents fought with all they could
To get their child back into their arms
Their very spirits broke because they lost
And that's the last of them I got to see
I got sent to a home so far away
The man and woman that they put me with
Are nice but I can't call them mom and dad
They try to get me to be sweet and smile
But all that I can do is mope and cry
The shrink, she gave me paper and some pens
And asked me to draw what was in my thoughts
And so I drew the one thing that I knew
My daddies sitting all alone at home
She said I'd understand when I'm grown up
And meanwhile I should not be so attached
They weren't supposed to ever have loved me
Their baby taken far away for good
Outside, oblivious, the flowers bloomed
I found a wish and picked it from the ground
Someday the world will not be deaf and blind
With that I blew it gently in the wind
