AUTHORS NOTE:

There is another version of this story which was written in 2006 as opposed to 1996. What this means is that the newer version is longer and just, generally, better. My knowledge of crime, criminology, forensic practices, medical and legal jargon and the police and their practices, structure etc. is far enhanced and it shows in the updated version. Also I believe my writing style has evolved into something that simply more people would want to read and more people would enjoy.

I did note that my updated version had been viewed by 107 people but I decided to take it down for the time being- the chapters are still in my document manager so at any time I could put it back up again- for various reasons.

I admit that whilst I am not a fan of the stories where the author basically claims they will not update again until they get a number of reviews but at the same time most writers- and you can argue with me on this- like getting some kind of acknowledgment for their writing. It's an ego thing in part but I actually like getting constructive criticism. One of my stories, the first in "The English Roses" series (although they are all able to be read as stand alones and the reader doesn't need to read them in a certain order!), received quite a few reviews where it was said that a romance between two characters had not been developed and happened out of the blue. I had a look at what they were saying and realized they were completely right and so I went back and spent about two or three weeks working on a number of chapters- mostly in the last quarter of the book but some before that- and then I uploaded the new chapters and got positive feedback for my changes. That is the kind of thing I, as a writer, am looking for. While I enjoy (okay, I'll be honest, I love) getting reviews where the reviewer just enjoyed my story and didn't have any ideas about improving it because they thought it was fine as it was I am also completely open to constructive criticism. Having said that reviews I have come across on this site- thankfully not for any of my stories, yet, touch wood- where the reviewer simply tells the writer that their story was a "waste of time" or just simply "crap" or "stupid" is not the kind of thing I'd be looking for.

Anyway I am currently re-working "Jake Two: Mind Games" (which actually was never posted on fiction press as I couldn't find it for quite awhile) and when I am finished with that I will be writing Jake Fourteen before going on to re-write Jake Three thus taking it in turns between re-doing my earlier stories (and the latter ones if I look at them and decide they need some changing around too) and writing new ones. At the same time I am also working on the third in "The English Roses" series and I encourage people to read those stories as well as my Jake stories. If anyone who has not read the revised "Jake One: Who killed Jane Doe?" (working title) and they want to please just leave a note here, email me, or message me, and I will be happy to email it to anyone. Further if anyone has any ideas for a title for Jake One or any of the other Jake stories please let me know as one thing I am not good at is coming up with titles to my stories!

Thanks.

Amy.
