Night and Day
By Chris WaldenFor so many years
I searched for my soul
Shedding my tears,
I was tortured without parole.
I live what others did;
Now I know why
So many of us hid
Or wanted to die.
Life isn’t fair.
The game is too short.
Our lives had no flair –
Our ship not at port.
Who are we really?
What do we do now?
Unless you died a thousand deaths
In experience – and to do what?
How can we proceed
If we don’t know how?
I lost sight of the light.
Life was just one big fight.
I was losing to the darkness.
All my hopes were dying –
My dreams no longer flying.
Then my day came
And nothing was the same.
I found the light at last
And regained my sight at ‘full blast’.
I suddenly knew who
And what I was going to be.
You’ll find out someday too,
When you set your mind free.
This does not mean
To end your own life –
But to begin life itself
In your new world without strife.
The past can’t be changed,
And you can only change the future.
What’s done is done;
You can only learn from your mistakes –
Don’t give yourself headaches.
Your day will come too,
As mine once did.
It will be a living reminder
To you of your special place.
I look back but a week –
Or was it a year?
Either way, I climbed
From the pit of despair
And into the clear and open air.
Now I know how,
I can live life anew.
While I was grounded then,
I took my wings up and flew.
I once looked at myself
And saw only a machine:
A cold shell without meaning,
Without purpose in life,
Without the light of life,
Without the nurtured heart.
Now I’m still a machine.
The once cold shell is warm;
It is protecting me now
With my knowledge and experience.
At last I am completed,
With all of my parts.
One with a purpose in life,
One with a conscious soul,
And one with a warm heart.
So you see,
Within life there can be,
Light.
The shiny ray of hope,
No longer a need to mope.
Look for your day
To show you your way.
