Something I wrote when I was thinking of something a friend told me.
If You Fall In Love

We sit across from each other
you fidget nervously
I stare stoically.

You finally build your courage
looking me in the eye
trying to gauze my reaction
you spill your secret.

My mind goes blank
then I recall past conversations
and the hints you have dropped.

Looking back on it
you were surprised by my reaction.
You thought I would be disgusted
you thought I would isolate you.
You never expected me to not care
about how you like to take it.

I can understand that your feeling confused
I can understand that you don't have
many people to talk to about this.

I'll be there when you need to talk
But you have to know
I won't be able to understand
if you fall in love.
