The color was bright purple.
Well, that was the dye color; the actual color that would appear would be a deep red, so dark it almost appeared black. The woman just smiled as she screwed open the bottle, fingers easily pouring in the needed ingredients. Her girlfriend was perched on the edge of the kitchen chair, her own fingers drumming nervously on the wooden seat.
“What time is it?”
The darkhaired woman glanced at the kitchen clock, shrugging gently in response before verbalizing. “Almost ten.”
“Oh.”
The woman pulled the gloves onto her hand, screwing the bottle shut and shaking it hard. The soft swishing sound was smooth, comforting, as the television blared mutedly in the living room. “You ready?”
Her girlfriend nodded, her crimson hair showing light brown roots after a month and a half of not being painted. Moving up behind her, the woman slowly parted a straight line down the base of her girlfriends head, allowing a thin line of purple to follow her finger.
Girlfriend made a soft noise, head tilting the ways in which directed; the woman could see the small goose-pimples on her loves bared arms and knees. A smirk covered her lips, fingers continuing to part and coat the roots of her girlfriends hair, basking in the softly made noises.
Fingers stroked gently at the short length of Girlfriends hair, rubbing as if it was shampoo which she frequently used on the other girl. “You can’t tell me you aren’t loving this.”
She knew Girlfriend was grinning as her head leaned back into the womans touch. “I’m loving this.”
“I know.” The chuckling amusement didn’t leave the womans voice as she continued working the dye into Girlfriends hair, even though it wasn’t really needed. The gentle noises continued until the woman moved back, slowly removing the cheap plastic gloves. “You can shower in about twenty minutes, love.”
“Mmhm.” Girlfriend peeked open an eye, rounded face framed by slick, thick red hair pressed down in a knot on the top of her head. Flashing her lover a smile, her tone turned wry, cracking a small, inside joke. “It’s that one night a month where you don’t shower with me.”
The woman laughed, patting Girlfriends cheek gently before letting herself sprawl onto their couch. “Mm.” Girlfriend sat next to her, carefully keeping her head from touching anything as she settled her thighs so they rested against the womans own. For twenty minutes, they sat still, merely enjoying each others company while The Price Is Right played on.
When Girlfriend finally stood and moved towards the bathroom, she spoke a full sentence. She turned halfway, palm resting on the swell of her hips in a show of character. “Love you.”
The woman grinned in response. “Love you too.”

Don’t ask where this came from. I just wanted to write it.
