Leah was on the look for a lad, as usual! She wasn't much of a babe-magnet, it was always Debbie, her best friend, who got all the attention from boys. Not that she was jealous, in fact she was very happy for her friend, but most of the time any boys who talked to her were slagging her off about her weight. Although she was quite tall, about 5'9, she was quite heavy. Not monstrously, but still enough to make her self conscious in public.

Yet Leah was a great mate, always there if anyone needed a shoulder to cry on. Most of her friends were girls, until she met Rob. He joined their school in Year 9. He was lovely to Leah and to Debbie too. Leah became pretty much best mates with him, second only to Debbie of course. Rob fancied Debbie (well, who wouldn't?) and this got in the way of their friendship a little bit, also he had many lessons with Leah and only a couple with Debbie, which separated them even more.

It was strange seeing them around school, big Leah linking arms with Debbie, and little Rob trotting along behind! In fact their whole relationship was weird. They seemed so different, Leah and Rob. Leah had a wicked sense of humour, Rob was extremely sarcastic in his ways, they each had completely different lifestyles to the other, Rob's family was quite posh, and Leah's were "normal" ie. middle class, a middle sized house etc. Leah was tall, and big, where as Rob was small and slender. And obviously, Rob was a boy, and Leah was a girl! In Year 9, for a girl and a boy to be best friends, it was kind of weird. But they didn't care. They improved each other's lives, they cheered each other up and shared their feelings together.

Their lives babbled along like this slowly for a couple of was until Darren came onto the scene......
