Note: Got bored with the last story so decided to start with a new one. Storyline is kind of lame, but at the moment, it’s the only thing that I am able to squeeze out of my mind. (Mostly dialogues for this story. It’s easier to write like this… hee…) Enjoy!
PLATONIC LOVE
She stood at the hilltop in the dim moonlight. The cool night breeze blew her hair up in all directions and chilled her. Goosebumps appeared and she shivered. As she hugged herself tight, a tear trickled down her left cheek. She closed her eyes in emotional pain and stood there in the cold night. The shadows of trees and night creatures loomed over hers, engulfing her. Just like how her pain had consumed her over the past few weeks. There she stood motionless. Quiet. Almost peaceful. But her feelings were anything but peaceful. She let the thoughts flow through the door of her soul for a while, but they slammed into her heart fast. As usual. She could no longer take it anymore. She collapsed in sheer tiredness into a tiny, lifeless pile beside the old oak tree. The same oak tree where he first confessed his love…

“Sarah, would you go to the school dance with me? Please?”
“Well… I’m not sure…”
“Please? I can’t think of anyone better than you to go to the dance with. What is better than spending the last day in high school with your best friend?”
“Okay, okay… You’re lucky no one asked me to the dance yet. Not that anyone wants to ask me anyway. I would rather go the dance with some charming young guy though.”
A moment of pain flashed across his face. Just a quick flash, but Sarah saw it. They were not best friends for nothing.
Sarah’s voice softened, “Hey. I was only kidding. I wouldn’t want to go to the dance with anyone but you. Best friends always right?”
He smiled faintly. “Yep. Always.”

The day of the dance arrived. Everyone was glamorously dressed. The guys were charming in tux and the girls were like fairies in their long silky gowns. Each one of them came with a partner arm in arm. It was just like an olden day ball, only better and livelier.
“May I have the honor of having the first dance with you, Miss C.?”
Sarah grinned broadly at your partner. She put her hands in his delicately.
“Yes, you may.”
Together, they waltz across the dance floor in accordance to the music. Both of them never learnt dancing, yet when they were dancing in each other’s arms, everything seemed natural and easy. Onlookers admired them from afar.
“Aww… Don’t they make a cute couple?”
“Oh… They dance so well together!”
“I bet they would make a great couple! A pity they are only best friends.”
Both of them were tuned out from their surroundings. There were the only ones in the world then. The only sound they could hear was of the music and each other’s voice.
“Have I told you that you looked especially gorgeous today? Not that you weren’t always beautiful…”
She blushed. “Thanks. You looked charming yourself. I bet many girls here today would kill to be in my place.”
“Know what? Let’s leave this place. I’m feeling very darn restricted in this environment. Really not used to it. Come, let’s go!”
He gently placed his right arm protectively over her waist and led her outside through the crowd. Outside, a bight yellow cab was waiting at the curb. He opened the door for her to get it and closed it after he got on.
Sarah shivered in anticipation, “Where are we going?”
“You’ll see.” He smiled seductively and wiggled his eyebrows. She laughed and whacked him with her purse.
After traveling in silence for about 10 minutes, the cab stopped. The pair got off.
Sarah took a sharp intake of breath as she looked at the sight before her. She could see the whole village from where she stood. Many of the houses were in darkness but a few still had flickers of light coming from the tiny windows. It was like being in an oil painting by Vincent Van Gogh, only this was reality.
He stood beside her in silently, with his arm around her shoulders. He allowed her to take in as much of the wondrous sight as she could and wanted. The wind blew through their hair, landing cool kisses on their cheeks. They stood there for a while, enjoying the peaceful moment together.
“Sarah, are you tired? Let’s rest here.” He walked towards the oak tree and sat down, leaning against it. She followed suit.
After they had settled comfortably, he asked, “Had you ever thought of the possibility of falling for someone whom you used to treat as a sibling?”
“Umm… Not really… But, hey, in life, all things are possible! Why are asking this question all of a sudden?”
“Sigh. Well, one of my friends fell for his best friend. A girl, mind you. He, umm, doesn’t know whether to tell her as he’s afraid he would ruin the relationship between them. What do you think?”
“If he really likes her, I say he should go for it. Or else he might just regret it someday for not saying how he feels about her. If their friendship is really that strong, I believe things like this would not ruin it.”
“Yeah. I shall tell him that. You give very good advice you know.”
“Haha. Thanks.”
A moment of silence. The hooting of an owl.
“Sarah, can I tell you something? But first you must promise not to get angry, alright?”
“You sound so serious. Ya?”
“Umm… This is really difficult for me. Well… I… I… LIKE YOU… There I said it…”
“WHAT? You are kidding right?”
“Haha. Ya. How did you know that?”
“Phew. I thought you were for real.”
“You know me better didn’t you? *smiles* It’s getting late. Let’s go home before your parents kill me!”

“Sarah, are you free this Saturday? How about catching a movie together?”
“Sorry, I’m not free today… Another time maybe.”
-----------------------------
“Hey, my school’s having a band concert next Wednesday. Do you want to come?”
“Well, it’s a school night. I don’t think I can make it. Sorry.”
-----------------------------
“My school’s having a R & J play. I got an extra ticket, you want to come along?”
“R & J? Hee. Shouldn’t you like invite the girl you like instead? Go ahead and ask her!”
“Right. I’ll ask her…”

Note: I’m ending here bcuz I haven’t thought of what to write after this. This story is kind of predictable isn’t it? Well, all love stories are predictable… Hope you enjoyed the first chapter! (“,)
