Contrary to popular belief, no, I have not been bound and gagged to a wall, forced to resist my cruel addiction to... fiction. And as for being dead, well -- that's still going through some minor experimental stages. So anyway, this song is based on a picture I drew today; an alleycat with black tears and a sign tied to its neck, that says "will work for food." I'm really proud of it, because it's the 1st picture I've ever really finished, and drawn all by myself. Yay! I haven't had a chance to show it to anybody but good ol' mom, and she likes it, so if the whole world thinks it's a rat with a stick up it's ass -- I can cry and scream, but I'm guaranteed a place on the fridge. Right next to Lauren's pretty finger-paintings. Sarcasm... can't live with it, can't write a freakin half-page author's note promoting my sad, sad, self-proclaimed "art" without it. Please tell me what you think, I really appreciate reviews. :o)

----------

Staring out around the world
From behind a cardboard sign
Can you see it in my eyes?
In between the tears I've cried?

One foot in the sand, two arms reaching for shame
Something I can almost taste

Somewhere in the world
There stands a better home
Where cold, hard brick I'll dream against no more
And
Someday in your life
You'll find a braver soul
Lost in the heartache you'll never know

Dark eyes wander past my face
Looking away
Two coins fall into my hand
I nod my thanks
He walks away
Drowning in some lonely world, unknown

One cloud summons all
In rising sympathy
He pities me
A silver drop slips and falls
Before his feet
Rain or tear, either, they're lost in defeat

Somewhere in the world
There stands a better home
Where cold, hard brick I'll dream against no more
And
Someday in your life
You'll find a braver soul
Lost in the heartache you'll never know
