Ashley glanced around the crowded gymnasium. “For You I Will” by Monica had begun to play. “Has anyone seen Ben?” She asked, as she rejoined her friends. “Um...Ben? Ben who?” Kali asked. “Ben Fisher. The guy i came to the dance with. Hello? I’ve only been attached to him at the hip the whole night.” Ashley smiled. Trish’s eyes flickered towards a darkened corner of the gym. She bit her lip and looked down at her shoes. “What’s going on?” Ashley asked. “I really don’t think you want to know where he is, Ashley.” Jenna laughed.
Ashley’s smile faded away as she stalked to the corner Trish’s eyes had glanced at moments ago. Her eyes blazed as she began to hear muffled sounds. Her suspicions were confirmed when she saw Ben kissing another girl. “I thought I was your date, Ben.” Ashley stated calmly. Ben smirked. “There’s been a slight change of plans.” He spoke as he looked at the other girl. “And why is that?” Ashley asked, anger becoming very apparent. “It’s actually rather simply. She puts out.” Ben responded. “You son of a bitch!” Ashley screamed. She slammed her fist into his nose. “You whore!” Ben yelled as he cupped his nose. “No, Ben. She’s the whore, remember?” Ashley retorted. She turned and walked out of the gym.
Once outside, she began to cry. ‘I’ll be the laughing stock of the whole school. How could he do this to me? That ruthless shit! And my friends! My friends didn’t even care.’ Ashley’s thoughts were interrupted by a familiar voice. “Why aren’t inside?” Ashley glanced up to see Gavin staring at her, taking a drag on a cigarette. She inhaled sharply as she looked away. “It was getting kind of hot, so I decided to get some air.” She lied. Gavin nodded his head. “Okay, now I’ve heard the lie. What’s the real reason you’re out here crying?” He inquired. “I’d rather not talk about it.“ Ashley quietly answered. They sat in silence for a few moments before Ashley asked, “Why do you like me?”
“I don’t know. You’re different. You’re a mystery to me. I mean, you hang out with those bitches and I can’t understand why. You’re not like them. I know you’re not like them.” Gavin replied. “You don’t know anything about me! And don’t badmouth my friends!” Ashley yelled. “Your friends? They are not your fucking friends, Ash! You and I both know it! But for some crazy reason you keep trying to fool yourself into thinking they really give a damn about you when you know that they don’t! If they were really your friends why didn’t they leave the dance, too!” Gavin shouted.
Ashley pushed his body up against a tree and forcefully kissed him. Gavin fidgeted with his hands before placing them around waist. He could fell her tears falling as she ravaged his mouth. Moments later, she pulled herself away from him and ran. Too stunned to move, Gavin stared as she disappeared from his sight.
