Lucy Chapter 8
A/N: Hey everyone…I’m posting again. Hopefully the ending to this doesn’t suck. (it’s coming quite soon)
The next few months were heaven. I moved in with Lucy and we got along great. We fell more and more in love with every passing day. We made love (both our first time) within a week. Things between us were wonderful. I got a part-time job at the local record store while I finished school, she worked in an office for an editorial company. We were practically married.
I sat in the shower one night…taking this all in. Lucy had to work late that night so I was on my own. No one around. I closed my eyes and let the hot beads of water softly pummel my back. So relaxing. When I finally decided to get out I noticed something funny about the shower. For an instant…more like less than an instant…it seemed to not be there, like it was decayed or something. I threw it off as nothing and went back to my business.
I cooked Lucy dinner that night. I lit candles and bought her flowers. It was our 6 month anniversary that day. I remember when she came home that night she started crying. I couldn’t believe it. For the first time in her life, she had tears of joy. That brought the little stingy droplets to my eyes also. Later that night I tried to reach out and hug her but she didn’t seem to respond. I just blew it off and went back to my computer. I never though twice about it.
Until that fateful day in December…when everything fell apart.
I sat in my car, waiting for Lucy to get off of work. I had a little package in my pocket for her. I was going to ask her to marry me. I had saved up what little money I could scrounge up from my job and bought her a small engagement ring. I then drove her to the old abandoned house. We made that house our “special” spot. I led her up the old rickety stairs and into the bedroom where the moon shone brightly through the giant hole in the roof. It was a full moon, and I had lit candles everywhere. I bent down on one knee.
“Lucy…I love you more than words could ever even try to begin to fathom. You saved my life and I am eternally grateful. Marry me, please.” With that, I slipped the ring onto her finger. I saw her eyes look into me with a very frightful look. I didn’t know what was wrong.
I looked down. As the gold touched her skin, I couldn’t believe my eyes. She began to decay very rapidly. Her skin began to rot and the bones on her fingers started to crumble. I was in total shock and disbelief. I had never seen such a thing happen right in front of me. “L-Lucy…w-what’s happening to you?!?!?!?!?!” I stammered.
Silence.
“Please, Lucy, what is going on???”
Silence.
I could only watch her decay, and then crumble into ashes.
I literally felt my heart completely shatter into a million pieces.
I looked up at the sky and cursed the moon. I then fell to the floor where her ashes lay. I wept. I wept so violently my whole body shook and so did the weak, half-rotted floor. It seemed the whole house wept with me…as if it knew the sorrow of my soul. I cursed and cried for her. I shed tears for everything we had together that was now lost. I wept until I saw the sun peak over the horizon. I gathered up what was left of Lucy and the engagement ring, and headed towards “our” apartment. As soon as I walked in the door, the smell of her skin met my nose.
I couldn’t take it at all. I then locked myself in the bathroom. I cut very violently across every part of my body I could reach. I then laid down on the bathroom tile and let my body bleed. After about four or five minutes I passes out.
