Death is a shadow that always follows the body.

Can one survive without its shadow?

"My dear Ramon,

I apologize for leaving so abruptly. I never meant to hurt you or dishonour you in any kind of way, but unfortunately I couldn't stay with you any longer. I have caused too much damage.

I should have never made you a vampire and turned you into an immortal being.

You may find your immortality as a bliss for the first years, but as you will see the life pass you by, the people around you grow old and die, the world change... You will start to think differently.

To be immortal sounds good in theory, my dear. But when you really get to experience it, you slowly realize that it is the worst curse that could ever be put on you. And I am guilty of have cursed you for the rest of the eternity. I fell into the temptation of wanting to keep you by my side forever. When I look into your eyes, I lose all my abilities to think rationally and I do stupid things that I would never do otherwise. And to make you immortal was the biggest mistake I could ever have made. I have cursed you and I have cursed myself while I was at it. I robbed you of the wonderful, simple mortal life you could've given and instead I offered you the eternity.

I cannot express my sorrow and pain through my words. I am not a writer and I have never been. But I had to let you know that a day doesn't go by without me thinking of you and the pain I have brought into your life.

To make things even worse, I am unable to help you while you are trying to handle your life as an immortal. I can not stand by your side and guide you and the reason is quite simple.

I have decided to die.

Of course, not in the full meaning of the word. Nobody and nothing can kill me anymore, not even the hot sunlight or the fire. Yes, it can crumple me but it can't kill me. I have lived too long, I have become too strong. Too IMMORTAL.

No, it's more the matter of dying temporarily. I have decided to go under ground, stop hunting and slumber away into a dreamless sleep in the dark earth. Many, many years, centuries have passed without me resting once and now I feel that it is time for me to do so.

Partly I'm also doing it because currently I can not bear existing with the great amount of guilt and sorrow that the curse which I have laid on you is causing me.

I need rest. I need to forget about everything for a while. Although there is one piece of advice which I want and which I shall give you.

Die. Die as soon as possible. Expose yourself to the merciless daylight or end your immortality with fire. Do it while you are still weak enough to be killed by these means. Don't be tempted by living this cursed life which I have given you through my foolishness and my human weakness. Die.

I have done too many mistakes and now I have to pay the price for them. Die while you still can my dear Ramon. Don't wait for me because there is a great possibility that I will never arise again.

I'm sorry. I'm so sorry.

Yours,
Isabelle."

My spirit is broken, my days are extinct, the grave is ready for me.

This letter was found in the drawer of an old, uninhabited house when the place was about to be torn down with its foundations. Currently it is examined by the Centre For Supernatural and Unexplainable Events and they are hoping to find more proof for a theory that has been based on this letter - that a vampire has once written this letter and may be still alive under the foundations of this house. They believe that the letter was never sent because of yet unknown reasons.
