The Dragon’s Quest By Chris Walden

‘Twas the time of pain;

‘Twas the time of darkness;

In a world filled with,

there was no light of hope.

The world like a flower

still living from a brushfire;

since no-one could help by

being in wars till waging so dire.

I was told by my father

in his parched, fiery breath.

He said, “Go find the squire.

Then bring him back here –

strong, sane, and safe from death.”

I aided the cool free winds,

which were the last left pure.

To the poor western country,

I fled to bring on his safety.

Indeed, to make sure.

He had suffered much,

that made me wish for him;

But nonetheless, he had

to fight for his own, though grim.

I offered my help in ten-fold,

and spared him much time.

He was too shocked to see me,

like any gawking human

who never saw a dragon in prime.

We became good friends;

And my heart grew stronger

knowing some humans wish

to have friends to the end.

We found an old man;

In the city-port of filth.

He was a great sorcerer,

but sold boats for his wealth.

He joined our good cause,

giving his boat to travel by stealth.

And thus we went

on the great blue sea;

even though I could fly.

The young man complained,

“why not take us flying faster,

freer, father for home?”

I told him, and he spoke quietly

then only in prayer for our cause.

So begins our quest,

throughout the ravaged world.

How would you act best,

if you were a dragon,

how would you save the world?
