So this girl was walking down this hallway. It was dingy, and you could see the dust floating in the air, waiting to seep into unsuspecting lungs. The air smelled a little like all-purpose cleaner, harsh and stingy. The lighting only enhanced the whole thing. Flourescents never seem to give off a color of their own, and as this hallway didn't seem to want to identify itself with even a color, and undefinable grey seemed to cling to the walls like half damp paint.
As for the girl, she didn't even know why she was in this hot, sweaty, musty hallway. She just knew she was there, and she was walking. As she had no set of discernable goals, she just walked on towards the end, the far away, hazy end. Cuz, hey, here she was, and there it was, and maybe there were doors on the side and maybe there weren't, she never really looked. Oh sure, she'd occasionally find a spot where the dust wasn't so oppressive (in one of those spots she noticed the shirt she was wearing didn't really go with her pants, but what the hell).
This weird feeling suddenly came over the girl, and she rushed towards the end of the hall. She ran as hard as she could, inhaling more and more lung coating dust and scratchy cleaner smell as her rate of inhalation increased. She raced right through, and didn't notice that the dust was clearing up (her breathing was so heavy at this point it still felt like pounds of it was circulating through). She didn't notice that everything seemed to lighten up, and that the hall was actually a very bright place, and that the cleaner smell was slowly replaced by a sweet soft scent.
Finally tiring, the girl slowed. The dust that she had stirred started to settle again, covering the lively scene she had missed at her quicker pace. The harsh dusts mixed with any kind of pleasantness to the smell and gave it a Clorox like sting. And damned if the end of the hall wasn't still completely invisible to her. She lie down on the hard floor, and slept.
~ Yea, I don't know either. It felt oddly important. so what the hell. ~
