Stephanie Cane stood just behind her best friend, Jacqueline Renolds, who was getting married at that exact moment.  She stood and watched as Jacqueline and Steven said their vows, she was going to miss Jac when she left.  Jacqueline and Steven were moving to Canada straight after their honeymoon.  Unknown to Stephanie Steven's best man, his brother, Dean was watching her.  Jacqueline and Steven had started dating four years ago, he had heard both of them talking about Stephanie but never met her before.  Stephanie had been away while the wedding preparations had been going on, she had just returned two days ago from spending the last year and a half in Africa.  Dean had got the impression that she was short and normal looking when in actual fact she was tall, almost as tall as he was and he was six foot two.  She was slim but not too slim, she had strawberry blonde hair and big green eyes, and she was dressed in her bridesmaid dress, which was light blue.

"I now pronounce you man and wife, you may kiss the bride."

Stephanie blinked, it was all over Jacqueline was now Jacqueline Matthews.  Jacqueline and Steven walked down the aisle hand in hand.  Dean offered Stephanie his arm and they followed the happy couple.  Outside the photographer took their photos.  A little while later Stephanie was standing with Jacqueline's parents when Jacqueline came over and grabbed her arm.

"Come on Steph I can't have a photo without you in it."

"I'm in plenty." Stephanie laughed.

"I want one just the two of us."

"Okay." Stephanie smiled at her best friend "I'm coming."

"What do you think of Dean?" Jacqueline whispered as they posed for the photographer.

"Considering I only spoken to him for about two minutes he' alright."

"Just alright?"

Stephanie looked at her "What are you up to?"

"Nothing."

"What are you up to Jacqueline Renolds?"

"It's Matthews now and I just wanted to make sure you two got along because you're sitting next to each other at the reception. "

"Isn't the bridesmaid suppose to sit next to the Bride and the Best man next to the Groom?"

"I changed the seating plans." Jacqueline answered innocently and headed off in the opposite direction before Stephanie could say anything.  Stephanie knew her friend too well and had an idea what she was up to.

After the speeches the meal was served.  Stephanie had really liked Dean's speech, it had been funny and original.  As they started to eat he said.

"I believe you were in Africa the last year."

"South Africa, aha."

"Was it a working holiday?, must have been for you to be out there that long."

"It wasn't a holiday, I was there on business.  The company I work for opened a new branch over there and I was one of the lucky managers to get sent over there to get it up and running."

"You’re a manager?"

"Marketing Manager."

He guessed she was the same age as Jacqueline, twenty-eight, two years younger than he was.

"Which company do you work for?"

"Jac's Dad's."

"Oh."

"She's been working for my Dad since she was sixteen." Jacqueline said leaning over to talk to them.  "Decided she wasn't happy with a normal sixteen year olds job and talked my dad into letting her work during the holidays."

Dean smiled at Jacqueline "Are you always this nosy?"

"Jac nosy that's an understatement!" Stephanie added.

"You're one to talk." Jacqueline answered.

"Me, I don't butt in, in the middle of a conversation."

"I didn't butt in, did I Dean?"

"Some bother-in-law you are."

"What have I done already?" he asked innocently.

"Your suppose to back me up."

"Why?"

"Yes why does he have to back you up?" Stephanie asked.

"Because I said so." Jacqueline answered huffily.

"You said so."

Steven stood up and pulled Jacqueline to her feet.

"I'll save you from these two." He said to Dean "They can get a bit noisy when they start."

"Us?" the two girls asked laughing.

"See what I've had to put up with!" Steven added before he led Jacqueline onto the dance floor for the first dance.

"Did you get much sight seeing done while you were over there?" Dean asked returning to the original conversation.

"Not as much as I would have liked, I'd love to go back as a tourist."

He laughed "I suppose it would be better than a manager."

She laughed in response.  He stood up and held out his hand.

"Would you like to dance?"

"Sure." She said taking his hand.

It was near the end of the evening, Stephanie was dancing with Dean again, she had spent most of the evening with him, and they had got along really well, and had things in common.

"I think I've had too much to drink." She declared.

Dean laughed "How many have you had?"

"Eight I think."

He laughed "Eight isn't that much."

"It's more than I'm use to."

"Poor Stephanie, hung over tomorrow morning."

"Probably."

Dean had only had the glass of champagne at the speeches as he was taking Jacqueline and Steven to the airport.

"I'd better get the bride and groom organised to leave."

"I'll help."

"What you doing tomorrow?" he asked.

"Nothing why?"

"Do you want to do something tomorrow?""

"As in you and me?" she replied.

"Yes."

"Sure, what are we doing?"

"I don't know yet but I'll think of something."

"Okay."
