Smiling, faking happiness
Laughing right on cue,
But looking in the mirror
She sees brown eyes so blue.
She has a loving family
'Unconditional and true'
But who knows what they'd think or feel
If they only knew.
How queer, how wrong, unnatural
From their points of view,
They'd want to still see her as the same
"But gay you just can't do."
"There's help," they'd say. "We'll cure you!"
As they scatter all askew
To 'fix' their loved girl back to normal
Like porcelain with glue.
But she can't be their little doll
The act is done and through,
And suddenly they're conditional
And those brown eyes stay blue.
