Ch.18
"Unfinished"
Black masks, black clothes, not even human anymore. They were destroying my beautiful civilization as they had every other they had come in contact with. I was helpless, I could only sit and watch as my people were robbed, raped and slaughtered before my very eyes. In the middle of all that destruction stood the cloaked figure and even though I couldn't see his face I knew he was laughing at my helplessness. He came over to where I lay, powerless on the ground, and knelt down so I was within earshot.
"Oh how the mighty have fallen." I could just feel him smirking "I can stop all this with a wave of my hand, Your Majesty, all it takes is your word." I looked around once more at the death and desolation that these foreigners had brought to my land and I knew the only way to stop them was to give them what they wanted.
"I hereby give the deeds of this planet to you and you alone. Now, please, leave us be!" The last came out desperately as I pleaded with him through my eyes. They widened as the figure pulled back his hood and the face tugged sharply at my memory.
"I don't think I will. You see, Lady, mine are a vast people and we have out grown the constraints of our own planet. Therefore, we require the use of yours to maintain our future success." He smiled a wicked smile that made my insides turn to ice, "Unfortunately, in order for us to utilize this planet to its fullest it must be empty." As the impact of his words hit I felt the feeling of dread inside intensify ten-fold. He had never intended to let any of them live.
"Then why? Why did you even ask when you could have just taken?" again his wicked smile.
"Because I knew you were weak, but I wished to prove it to you." He did a mock salute and pushed off the ground, walking off through the carnage as casually as someone would through a field of daisies. The pain that had been just beneath the surface deepened and I doubled over.
"Breach in Cryo-sheild, initiating shut down sequence." The strange voice entered my thoughts as the pain welled up inside me. Where was I? "Oxygen circulation 64%. Shut down sequence complete in 5. . .4. . .3. . .2 . . . 1" air rushed in and brushed my face and I realized that my eyes were closed. As I opened them I felt my body topple forward onto hard deck plates. My mind was a mass of confusion, where were all the people? Who was that man and why had I given him my planet? No. Not my planet, someone else's.
That still didn't answer the question of where I was. Little by little, I took stock of my surroundings; I was in a small metallic room with a small acceleration bench in one corner and a Cryochamber with a large crack in the glass in the other. It wasn't a cabin because there were navigation controls right next to the acceleration bench. Slowly, I put together what had happened. When the pirate had knocked me out he had obviously ordered me into one of the escape pod's Cryochambers so I couldn't cause any more ruckus. But then what of the city and all those people?
Abruptly, I become conscious of the fact that everything I had seen and heard had been not mine, but someone else's memory. . .again. . .. Ever since the incident in the suit I had been having strange nightmares, but none this. . . real. It was like I was actually there. Faintly, I decided that it was probably due to the influence of the drugs used in the cryogenic process and chose to try and find out why I had been released.
This took an unexpectedly small amount of time as I felt a shudder run through the entire ship. What was going on? The door to the small cabin was locked, but I knew there had to be an override button somewhere on the control panel, it was standard, that is if the ship was made in this galaxy. I thanked whatever gods were listening when I found the small button and smiled with satisfaction as the door slid open.
I was about to leave when I remembered the radio transmitter on the control panel. Like the manual override it was standard and if would allow me to contact the right people or at least let me know what's going on. With practiced movements I activated the unit and started to switch from channel to channel listening for any hint of what was happening. Find this pursuit fruitless I turned to one of the channels usually used by the Space Force in hopes of finding someone out there. To my surprise, the line was chattering non-stop and the signal was strong, probably close by.
They must have found the pirates, I thought, wondering if they knew I was here. Deciding not to take the chance I picked up the receiver and clicked the 'on' button.
A/n: Alright I wasn't planning on posting this because it was unfinished but I have massive writers block and It looks like it might be a while. I know where I want to go but I am having trouble thinking of a plausible way for things to happen. I've been having a lot of writer's/artist's block type thingies lately so I'm taking a mental health day off from school to collect my thoughts/do my homework. Hopefully I can get it together and get some real spy type thingies involved^_^
