"That was a good dinner," Ruby commented as she and Jade boarded their father's jet later that evening. Nigel, one of the Smith's drivers, was driving the limousine back to Dallas.

Jade nodded. "It was," she agreed.

After a harassed looking Mr. Smith had grumpily returned to the limo, Nigel had taken them to The Chateau, an Italian restaurant about fifteen minutes outside of Wolf Point. Mr. Smith livened up at dinner, and they had a good time. Now he was napping up at the front of the jet, his chest rising and falling steadily.

Jade looked out the jet's window, thinking about the events of the previous week. School had been interesting, since they had gotten new lockers over the long weekend (the extra day was due to a teacher's workshop) and Jade had the locker next to an incredibly handsome tenth grader named John Davis. He was fairly popular but quiet, and only did one sport, and that was track. Jade didn't care though; she still thought he was great.

Turning to Ruby, she saw that her sister had started her history homework that was due Monday. Jade had already finished it during the first jet trip, and didn't feel like doing homework at the moment.

Suddenly Ruby snapped her book shut. "Damnit!" she said, although not too loudly so their father wouldn't wake up, "Why can't people see past our mistakes and just accept us for who we are? It makes me crazy!" she glared at her history book.

"But Ruby, most people do accept us," said Jade, sliding over so she could be next to her sister, "like our friends. And the teachers too. They all understand what happened."

"But not everyone does Jade!" said Ruby, "Why is that?"

"Remember how Dad wanted to keep it all hushed up after it happened?" asked Jade.

Ruby thought for a moment then nodded slowly. "Oh yeah, I remember," she said, looking at Jade, "how he wouldn't tell people he didn't know really well what really happened."

Jade also nodded. "Right. And of course he did his best to keep the press out of it."

"But they got in somehow," said Ruby, shaking her brunette head, "and for awhile there out lives were just a living hell."

"But that's all over now," said Jade.

Ruby looked into Jade's eyes and Jade saw that Ruby's blue eyes were tired and worried. "No," she said softly, "no, it's not over Jade. I- I got a letter yesterday."

Jade blinked. "A letter? What's so bad about a letter?"

Ruby opened her purse and took out a crisp white envelope. "They know everything Jade," she whispered, "Even the stuff the press didn't get at. Whoever they are, they know too much, and they want to take advantage of that - but not in a good way."

Jade's eyes widened.

A/N: Again, I'm sorry for such a short chapter, but coming up with ideas for this story seems to be taking me longer than I anticipated. But please R&R anyway!
