Sorry for the delay I was debating what exactly I wanted to put in this chapter. I decided to hold off the meeting and the spell till later chapters. Hope you enjoy it. Thanks so much for the reviews.
Minutes turned to hours and hours turned to days, and all she wanted to do was sleep. For two whole days that is exactly what she did. She got up only to use the restroom or drink. She didn’t have much of an appetite. She had heard Killian moving around in his room. He had knocked on the door the day before to tell her that he was going back to live with his parents. She had listened carefully for the front door, when she heard it close she rolled onto her side and cried again. One of the aunts had come in at some point because when she woke up again there was a tray of food sitting on her night stand. When she finally decided to climb out of bed it was six in the morning. She had already missed two days of school and she knew that if she ever wanted to get out of high school she shouldn’t miss another day. She showered and dressed throwing her long hair into a tight bun on the back of her head. When she came down stairs the aunts froze and watched her walk over to the refrigerator.
“Hello dear, how are you feeling?” Pat cautiously asked. Kat turned to her aunts and gave a weak smile.
“Fine.” She dug around in the refrigerator for a few minutes until she found something that sounded remotely good, then made her way for the front door.
“Would you like us to give you a ride?” Cam asked as her aunts followed her down the hall. Kat turned to them and again gave them a weak smile.
“I’ll walk.” She grabbed her book bag and gently closed the door behind her as she went. She took her time, picking at the apple she had chosen to eat for breakfast. She knew school was going to be awkward. When the new kid had decided to date the witch girl, it was huge news. But the break up would be even bigger. Ren was friends with both Kat and Killian. Kat didn’t want to make her choose between the two. But Kat also knew that she needed to not be around him right now. It was going to be hard, and she had to stop herself, multiple times, from turning and running back home. These thoughts continued to flood her mind as she walked. She glanced down at her watch and saw that the first morning bell didn’t ring for another five minutes. Kat slowly walked up the steps to campus and paused. Once again she had that feeling that she should turn and go home. She wasn’t ready for this yet. Maybe she could do home study. She quickly turned and was stopped by a pair of very concerned blue eyes.
“Hi……Ren,” Kat stuttered. Ren frowned and continued to stare at her friend. Kat waited not completely expecting what came next. Ren wrapped her arms around Kat and squeezed. Kat lifted what she could of her arms and hugged Ren back.
“Are you OK?” Ren asked in a whisper. She slowly pulled away and once again began to examine Kat’s face. Kat closed her eyes and took a deep breath. She knew this was coming. She had knew that Ren would be concerned and worried, and she tried her best to keep her tears at bay. Kat nodded.
“I’m fine,” she whispered. When she finally opened her eyes she found Ren still examining her. Her face broke into a gentle smile.
“I am glade that you finally came back to school. I was worried there for a while,” Ren joked. Kat couldn’t help but smile.
“C’mon,” Ren said taking Kats hand. Kat froze. Ren quickly turned back to her.
“Wha- we won’t go ever there. I know that you need your space. We can wait in the hall or something.” Kat smiled again.
“Ren, I don’t want you to have to chose sides-“
“Bobby and I agreed on it. You need me right now, and I plan to be there for you. Bobby is gonna hang with Killian,” Ren cut in. Kat nodded and allowed Ren to lead her one campus. All eyes were on her. Kat had expected this as well, but once again she wasn’t prepared for it. She took a deep breath and held her head. She refused to look defeated in front of these people. Ren wove through all the crowds to the hall outside their first period. The bell rang only seconds later and the went in and got a seat. They sat the back corner table furthest from where Killian would sit. Kat immediately closed her eyes when she felt him enter the room. She couldn’t look at him. She knew that if he looked terrible and miserable, she would blame herself. Ren gave him a weak smile and a wave. The rest of the class slowly flooded in and the second bell rang. Their teacher was out sick so the had a sub in his place. She took roll and explained that their teacher had left a video for them to watch and advised that they take notes, because when he came back they were going to have a quiz. Kat dug in her bag and pulled out some paper and a pen. She could feel him periodically look towards her, and she refused to look at him.
The period seemed to tinker by. Every time she looked up at the clock it felt as if hours had passed since the last time she looked, when it had only been mere minutes. Half way through the class period curiosity got the best of her. She had glanced over to ask Ren a question and her eyes caught him. He looked sad, maybe a little torn. She had been telling herself that he was the one who initiated this whole thing, not her. But some part of her couldn’t help but ask, was there something that she may have done wrong?Killian looked up from his paper and she quickly turned back to the video. None of this was your fault, she told herself. But then again, Jessica had kissed Killian. She closed her eyes and rubbed her brow. She had been facing this internal battle almost every waking moment and she layed her head down on the table willing it to stop. Ren placed a hand on her shoulder.
“Are you OK?” Ren asked with concern filled eyes. Kat nodded.
“My head just hurts a little.” Finally the bell rang and everyone began to flood out of class. Her second period went by without a hitch but she knew she would see him afterwards. The bell rang and packed up all her things. Ren was talking about some thing that she had seen on the Discovery channel as they were leaving the room. Suddenly Kat pumped into something and quietly cursed.
“Uh, Hello, maybe you could pay attention to where you’re going next time.” Kat rolled her eyes and looked up to meet Jessica. People in the hall around them began to pause and watch.
“Back the hell off, Barbie,” Kat said, ignoring Ren’s pull on her arm. Jessica smiled then and flicked a piece of hair over her shoulder.
“It must really just piss you off that he felt that I was more of a woman than you,” Jessica spat, her nasty grin growing wider.
“No it pisses me off that they allow people like you to live in society. But then again it must really piss you off that he chose me over you. How’s it feel to be seconded to a freak?” Kat paused as she watched Jessica’s jaw tighten in anger.
“I hate you, everyone knows that, I hope that you rot in hell, but I think everyone knows that too. But right now, I pity you the most. I pity you because you have to lie to yourself every morning to make yourself feel better. And because you’re a sad excuse for a human being.” Some people cheered some clapped. Kat smiled at Jessica and turned. Killian was standing there. Kat stared. She had expected to blow up at Jessica, but she didn’t. She had also expected to crumble to a puddle of tears when she saw Killian, but that hadn’t happened either. She realized then she had moved passed the sadness and grief. Strait passed to anger. She cocked her head to the side.
“Go ahead, she’s all yours.” She met his eyes for a split second before walking passed him. Ren smiled sympathetically.
“I know, she needs to hate me,” Killian said with a nod.
“But she’s hated me before, and we got passed that OK.” At that moment, Ren knew more than thought, that it would work out between them. She smiled again and squeezed passed Killian.
