The Twilight Child
PART ONE
Prologue
There is a small galaxy in the Crystal Realms, the Divine Galaxy. In this galaxy there is a legend, the legend of the Twilight Child, the child who possesses the magic above all power. For centuries many of the planets in this galaxy had hoped that one of their children would be this unique child, but none were powerful enough. Over time, the children on the planets grew weaker and weaker until magic was considered only a story for children’s fairy tales. The legend of the Twilight Child became an old myth that could only be found in the hidden Elders Chronicles on the planet of Tamo.
The seven planets of the Divine Galaxy joined together and made an oath to bond each of their royals together by marriage. Each prince from one planet and princess from another would marry, forever binding the planets. The planet of Tamo and the planet of Amola made the alliance with their first children of royals, a prince from Amola and a princess from Tamo. Each year of their young lives the prince and princess were brought together using the Transport Mirrors. However, the joining did not go as planned. Princess Siva and prince Leto despised each other, never giving the royals any peace from their constant bickering and thick, hateful silences. After many consultations, the marriage was cancelled.
Years later, the Tamo royals had a son, a prince, who they named Mathew after their late great-grandfather. A year after Matt was born the Amola royals had a daughter, a princess, who they named Sakura in dedication to Amola’s beautiful Cherry Blossoms that year. It was decided that Matt would marry Sakura as soon as possible in the hope that things would go better than the match with Leto and Siva. But although things seemed to go well, the keys to the Transport Mirrors were lost and the yearly meeting between the prince and princess could no longer take place. Undeterred, each royal household continued to plan the wedding independently.
Matt grew up under Siva’s shadow, always treated as second best. His heart grew hard and cold and he formed an unbreakable barrier around himself, created by the hatred and anger he held for everyone around him, apart from his best friend, Tom. Tom was the son of a courtier who had grown up with Matt and somehow broken through his barrier when no one else could. He had been the one who had suggested martial arts to Matt and from then on it had been the only way he could release the constant loathing. Now, don’t get me wrong, Matt treated his family with respect the same as everyone else, but that’s as far as it went, respect. There was no love in him or decency for anyone else, and that was the way everyone thought it would stay.
Sakura on the other hand, although practically raised by Leto because affairs of state kept the king and queen away for long periods of time, grew up to be radiantly beautiful and kind. She treated everyone with the same respect and kindness, although she was known to be very determined and stubborn. Her father and mother she didn’t know very well, even though they held a meeting with her every week, they never paid that much attention to her, apart from her wedding. Sakura helped everyone around her and refused to be waited on by servants. Through her fifteen years she worked with the servants instead of going to her refining classes and treated them all as if they were equals. From then on, it was considered an honour and pleasure to work for the Amola royals, not a burden or hard work like it was at the Tamo palace.
When Sakura was five, she persuaded her parents to adopt Brooke who was of the same age. Sakura had heard of Brooke’s tragic story, how she had been found huddled in a corner behind a chair where she had watched her parent’s murder, and she had felt sorry for her. Feeling that they should do something for their daughter, the king and queen adopted Brooke and from then on she was Sakura’s sister, and they were inseparable. It was decided that Tom would marry Brooke and so Sakura and Brooke would go together to the planet of Tamo. This prospect delighted both girls, as they had been dreading separation.
Both Matt and Sakura knew of the arranged marriage but thought it would never take place, as the Transport Mirrors could not be used. But fifteen years later…the keys were found.
