Thoughts in the dark: A night with the author
It was dark, steam rose from the city, streets filled with hookers looking
for sugar, and mostly fear had seemed to disappear with the smoke rising
from cars that pass by and the glow of the city lights. I had seemed to be
stuck, on the other hand in one of the city's most snooty cafés: people ate
and drank coffee, but I was there to get some inspiration and mostly a
companion to talk to.
I waited all night long when the fashionistas were gone and I had my fifth
cup of java. I was writing in scribbles, nothing came out of my pen. Was it
the place where poets go, isn't truly a café. or maybe it was really the
bathroom? Five minutes pass and I see the "ditzy chicks" come in, mocking
how everybody looked, and especially thinking they were the all mighty and
high bitches (the one who wrote "Blair Bitch" will probably laugh at them
for being so trying hard).
So I began to scan every page of my notebook trying to hide my laughter on
the "ditzy chicks" with their rock headed boy friends. I really enjoyed the
way they spoke with the "yeaaaaa", "oh gosh", and the "you know what"; but
as I heard their boisterous laughter, dunderheaded discussions, and flirty
gestures I decided to go out and have a relaxing walk to my car. Boring
isn't it, but you have to bear with me because it'll get more interesting
from here.
As I got closer to my car it started to rain and usually I would rush
through to get inside, which left me half drenched. But I didn't really
mind getting soaked, I just strode letting my clothes get heavy with the
pitter-patter of the rain.
As soon as I caught a glimpse of my beetle I opened it and closed the door.
I pulled back my chair to let me lay for a while to rest my aching head not
noticing any movement.
Eyes closed, I felt something brush through my face and as I opened my
eyes I saw a fish swimming inside my car! I panicked, I hit the horn
suddenly and I started to scream. I couldn't really speak; I opened the
door to find out that I was surrounded still by water. Closing my eyes, I
couldn't remember how I came to be, I was blind now, and I could feel
scales and laughter that was so gentle to my ear.
I had no breath any more, I started to swim for surface but something was
pulling me down. I opened my eyes and I saw a creature with a silver tail,
obsidian hair, and crimson eyes. It was smiling at me telling me not to go
back and come with it, I shook my head and I heard it make a moan and
bubbles filled my body.
"Wake up," I heard some one shaking me, the sound of cars halting to a
stop, and finally, when I opened my eyes I saw people crowding. "I'm up," I
said sitting up drenched all over.
I suddenly had the feeling that my vision of that creature was true and it
turned me into one like him. No, it couldn't be; I checked my legs and they
were normal as of before and so are my hands, scale-less. "Miss you're
husband was really worried," I heard the man say and he rubbed my back.
I was shocked I had no husband, I had not been married, and especially I am
too young for that, I'm only 18 you know! Looking down, worried and
distraught I muttered a, "what husband?" to the doctor. He smiled and
pointed out the ambulance door and said, "He is over there, Mrs., and you
might have forgotten everything when that car crashed in Mermaids Lake," he
said curtly making me feel more like an idiot. I searched for my so called
husband and found him coming towards the ambulance, he wore a worried look
but all in all he had obsidian hair, pale skin, and brown eyes!?
He looked at me in the most unimaginable look any man gave me, yes, a look
of concern. I made a quick glance and made my eyes have no direct contact
with his. I felt his fingers slip through my arms and under my knees; he
picked me up gently, pulling back my blonde hair and whispering in my ear,
he said, "Come with me now, lets go home."
