Chapter 5 (Alex or Ken)

I still had yesterday's memory within me. I can't believe I fell asleep. Who made the movie so damn boring anyway? It wasn't my fault or was it...?

"Claire? Claire, how was your date with your bf yesterday?" Ariel asked. Arg, does she always have to be so noisy??

"It was NOT a date, Ariel! I told you, we're just friends, plus I saw Cindy and Alex together," I said changing the subject.

Her eyes glowed with interest, "Really? Tell me about it! I bet Jane set them up!"

"Yeah, she did. Sorry I can't tell you about the thing between them, I fell asleep during the movie..."

"How romantic! Did you end up with Ken bringing you home? Huh? Huh? Huh?"

"No, it was embarrassing. I don't want to talk about it..."

It was Social Studies class. We could work in a group, that's how Ariel had a chance to ask me about yesterday. The teacher is too quiet to yell at the class. The room was full of noise. I looked at the board and started to copy the notes. Later I saw Alex standing in front of me. I blushed.

"Claire, guess what?" he said. That caught Ariel's attention.

"What?" I asked with surprise.

"The date with Cindy yesterday...it didn't work out..." he said looking at me.

"Oh my God! Why?" Ariel questioned. Her light brown head shot up.

"It's personal, Ariel."-He looks at me again-"Claire...I was thinking if we could...hang out...let's say...after school?" Is this a date? Honestly, it can't be...I'm not THAT lucky...am I? I just nodded. He winked at me and left...

Ariel was making those 'oooooooooh' noises again. I felt my face grow hotter each time. "Stop that, Ariel!" I yelled.

"Wow, so much guys are asking you out these days...by the way...I thought you disliked Alex....why'd you say yes? Do you happen to actually like him?" She seemed really interested. Oh man, what am I gonna say? What if Cindy still likes Alex?

"Um...well....I....uh..." I didn't get to finish my sentence and the class ended. The bell rung and we were off to our second period class.

We had Math second. I frowned. I hate math. The teacher is teaching too fast. Sometimes I feel like I'm failing math, yet, I pass them all with 90's.

I sat in my regular seat. I sat in the second roll. The teacher began to teach when a knock on the door was heard. All the heads of the students turn to the door. The teacher opened the door. It was Ken!! He handed the teacher this tiny yellow paper thing. She read it quickly.

"Class, we have a transferred student today. Ken. He will be in this class till graduation."-To Ken-"Please take a seat next to Ariel," she said.

Ariel grinned and raised her hand happily for Ken to see. I felt jealousy arose within me.

Ken nodded and went to sit next to Ariel. Math is the only subject Ariel doesn't sit next to Alex in.

Soon, lunch arrived. I'm so happy that Alex asked me out!! Today must be my lucky day! I, happily, sat on my seat in lunch. Ariel kept giggling about something as she opened her milk container.

"What's so funny, Ariel?" I asked. I was getting annoyed.

"You know, in math...I sat next to Ken...he told me to tell you something...." she stated. I got nervous, what might that be?

"Well, what is it?"

"He said maybe you two could hang out today because you didn't have much fun yesterday," came Ariel's reply. I searched for Ken's table with my eyes. I found it! It was near the staircase. He was with...Alex....?

"So, are you going with Alex or Ken...?"

NO!!! A dilemma! What am I going to do? Who should I choose? I've been dying to go on a date with Alex for a long time, but Ken...he's so nice....

"I can't believe it didn't work well!" Jane said madly.

"What?" Ariel questioned. Cindy and Jane were walking to our table. Then they sat down in front of us as usual.

"The date I set up for Cindy! How can Alex not like her?!" Jane screamed.

"Heh, he probably has someone else in mind..." Ariel answered eyeing me.

Jane followed Ariel's eyes and she ended up looking at me, "Claire? Alex likes you?"

I shook my head, "Of course not."

"Yeah, right."-To Jane and Cindy-"He asked her out in class today," Ariel told them. Her and her big fat mouth.

Both Jane and Cindy gasped after Ariel told them. I felt myself turning red.

"Did you say 'yes', Claire?" Cindy asked. She looked like she's really interested. Guess I'm not the only one in love with Alex after all.

"Yeah, I did. But I'm not planning to see him. I don't want to date him," I explained.

Ariel's eyes grew big, "You mean you're going to go out with Ken instead?"

"Who's Ken?" Jane asked. Everyone was too interested in the conversation that none of them got to eat anything yet.

So Ariel told our friends everything. I can't believe her. What a big mouth! Hmph. Wait till I find something about her!
