The Sea

The sea is an astounding thing to see;

Wonderful new worlds everywhere

The breaching whales

Dancing dolphins

Colorful creations covering, crawling,

Swiftly swimming elsewhere

Seeking another place to be

The sea is an amazing song to sing;

With all the creatures scattered everywhere

The songs of whales and dolphins,

The melody of manatees

The harmony of hesitant hermit crabs scuttling across the ocean floor

The chorus of currents rippling 'cross the surface

And the accompaniment they sing

The sea is an awesome wonder to behold, to perceive;

Bright bubbles below and above,

Free-feeling, floating with felicity

Perfectly peaceful, perhaps even rapturous

Too good to believe

Stirring inside shadows, sharks shearing

            the peaceful places

A groping or stinging tentacle

From some octopus, squid or lethal jellyfish

The undertow's fatal fingers grasp and pull

Down to dangerous deadly depth

These are mortal ordeals

To one not aware; to one not prepared…

Though the shark's severing teeth

            will strive to dissever it several times

And the terrible tentacles of hate

            come to grasp it away,

No fear, for there will always be

Sound or senses or all three

Or the rapture and wonder and beauty

Of a peaceful sea…

For you and me.
