Sonnet III

Now that I know thee by thy name
Thou hast become less a mystery to me.
The more that I know of thee
The more thou seem like a friend, a brother,
And less like a faceless stranger.
Some claim familiarity breeds loathing
Yet with them I disagree;
The better I come to know thee
And the more that I discover about thee,
Who thou art and how the world looks
To thine eyes and mind and heart,
The more I can see in thee
Which for beauty draws mine eye to thee
And keeps my heart from wandering.

[Comment: I finally asked the "handsome anonymous" what his name was and found out it was a fairly common name (hence "familiarity breeds loathing") which I hadn't cared much for till I discovered HE had it for a name, which made all the difference in the world. But I also found he had a very uncommon good sense about him.]
