A young Black man was born today, a tiny ebony king. So innocent and ready to take whatever life will bring, oh child, but you just do not know just how pitiful the world has been, and no you can't change everything, but watch and learn from real Black men. I heard a Black man say that he won't fall to circumstances, baby listen to your brother and don't give in to all these chances to wind up another number cuz you're much too good for that, cuz you were born to make things better, don't be stumbled by another who might try to bring you low as he, cuz friends like that come with a fee. You know what wrong is, so keep your distance, cuz in the end you'll just be wishin that you had taken advice and listen to those who've felt the heat in the kitchen. I heard a Black man say one time that every woman's beautiful, it's true my child, so learn respect for every woman young and old and if you are to choose one day to take one as your wife, be nice, and honor her, be there for her, and never turn away from her. You came from the womb, she came from the rib, so as one with her you should live, side by side and step by step, you'll learn in depth just why it's real to feel the way you feel, with her. And young Black man, don't ever hurt her, treat her like the queen she is, see in her the beauty that lives, and don't turn your back in betrayal or lies, cuz you'll never forget the sounds of her cries, you'll never be satisfied with your tries of seeking another outside. "I have a dream," a Black man once said, and paved the way for you to fill your head with thoughts of unity with every color that you see instead of hating or fearing with dread, cuz child, you're Black and that makes you a beautiful thing, but together the people side by side will bring true beauty in their diversity so stand up and be proud to be Black and free with a mind to accept every color you see. I heard a Black man giving thanks to the Lord for being blessed, for having air within his lungs, for clothes upon his chest, for being raised with faith and love by his mother and his dad, he's glad they've both been there, a pair of strong Black role models who care where he's going and how he's getting there. He gave his thanks for the village that raised him, the wisdom of his elders who never ceased to amaze him with stories of Noah and Jonah and Job, and all of the followers of the one who created him. Young Black man, don't despair, cuz the world is cruel and cold and unfair, and the pressure to go the easy route can bring you down and make you frown and thrash around and drown in this icy pool of obligation, situations that shouldn't even exist, that sadly do, but baby you, in all your humble pride, intelligence, and the compassion inside, your beauty and your knowledge, your talent and respect, your reasoning that brings you up, your wisdom to know how to check your ancestors' ideas and your willingness to learn and understand and see how to be as good a man as you can... Child, that's the plan. A young black man was born today in a world that he will change.
