A Politician's Lie

Hear the whistles, hear the screams,
Watch the world ripped round its seams.
All the peace sucked down the gutters
With the blood of sickened cutters.

Fields of bodies, fields of death;
Bloodstained ribbons for the Christmas wreath.
Roaring fires down the street;
Crumbling roofs and blistered feet.

Prayers in churches, prayers at home -
Make the bastards leave us alone!
Night-time silence, day-time blasts;
Rotting rations to break the fast.

Forget the joy, forget the peace;
Seems like the war will never cease.
Sky is dark and earth is dry;
Hope is just a politician's lie.
