Suffocating

The darkness intoxicates me

Whispering enticingly into my ear

Cradling like a coaxing sea

Offering to erase the pain of the years.

So tempting, to slip into the abyss

To allow all emotion to flee

And thoughts to turn listless

Is unhappy all I’ll ever be?

Beckoning from behind a door

Teasing, taunting, from afar

Claiming that pain I shall feel no more

If only this blissful silence I would mar.

I hate myself, and I hate you

I will never understand

Why you do the things you so cruelly do

As you tear out my heart from where you stand.

How is it love you so often claim

Coax me into giving you my heart

And then I find you are to blame

Always together, or far apart…

Will you always haunt me?
