A child barely six, asks of her mother,
"Where has Daddy gone?
Why did he leave?"
Her mother's answer was,
"Duty called and he had to answer.
Daddy went to war."
Everyone was sad
She didn't understand why.
Her mother had a tear in her eye.
Years past and again she asked,
"Where has Daddy gone?
Why did he leave."
From her mother she got the same reply,
"Duty called and he had to answer.
Daddy went to war."
She now understands her mother's answer.
Once she was asked
Why her dad left and
Where he went.
The only thing she could think to say was,
"Duty called and he had to answer.
My dad went to war."
