"The Very End"

I dream of you at night,

See your wings finally taking flight

Grateful tears stain my cheeks

And do not dare to speak

I fear that if to say a word would shatter the peace you’ve found

So I watch without a sound.

As your ripped, torn wings begin to fly,

I can't help but wonder why

It took you so long to achieve

This freedom granting a reprieve

Life seems senseless and chaotic

Words mendacious and spasmodic

Fly away with tattered wings

Slowly heal them of all things

I offer a hand to you

(It's always been there; it's nothing new)

My eyes plead for you to take it

Accept the help; please don't fake this

I need you here, I need you now

From your face, erase this frown

Please smile for me, don't be scared

Now that it's your soul you've bared

I love you now, as I did then

And it will be this way until the very end…

3/18/03, for KLM
