Waltz through the Barriers

IceAngelDarkMoon

***********Hey everyone, this is my first fiction I’ve posted, so please be gentle!! Please review; let me know what I need to work on. This piece is working on my descriptive skills. It was one really weird dream that caused this. Please enjoy!!*******

Background: Silence is one of my characters from a book I intend on writing. She is from a Space-Station and it was promised that if war ever broke out between Kear (the planet they now live on) and the Space-Stations, she and someone from the other SS would be sent in to end the war. Sorrow is really another of my characters from a different book, my friends know him by a different name (I’ll never tell!). He is from Earth but he too must end a war that has claimed everyone close to him and is still ruining his life. I’m sorry if it gets kind of confusing, but because this isn’t from either of my books it should be mostly understandable.

She didn’t know why she was even spending time on her costume, the only reason she was going to the masquerade was for a secret mission. She was even more clueless as to how she ended up in Anne’s room with the other girls tittering about how wonderful she looked and how they busied themselves with their own disguises. None of them suspected anything; to them she was just a really quite transfer student. But she was really an assassin from one of the space stations who was now starting on a mission to end the battle between Earth and the space stations.

It was going to be a long night she summarized by how many guys she had seen gawking at her in the hallways. So immature and stupid the lot of them she thought. They would either not work up the courage to ask her, or they would be so over confident she would just have to turn them down. The only good thing about the evening was she was supposed to steal information from the base where the dance was to be held. There were only two schools invited the other like her school was a posh and selective boarding school of wealthy kids. The good news was the teachers had decided it would be an old fashioned dance where every song was a waltz and it was a masquerade. There was to be a grand unmasking at midnight then.

Her ‘friends’ tittered some more about how perfect her costume was. She nodded a little to acknowledge them but remained silent, like her name; Silence. She wondered why the lot didn’t just turn into birds like they sounded like. They all trooped out of Anne’s room when it was time to go. They made their way to the base’s ball room right after the first wave of students had been admitted in.

It was a really grand entrance, even Silence had to admit. The entrance was situated on the level above the ballroom so you had to walk down stairs to get to the main level. At the entrance was a man who announced them by costumes, at least the girls. The announcer asked for their costume names, she knew no one would understand the real significance so why not just tell them what they wanted to hear.

“Here we have a lovely and mysterious, Dark Angel.” The announcer exclaimed as she slowly started to descend the steps to reach the ballroom. She knew and could feel all the faces of everyone in the room turn and look at her. The next person who was announced was completely ignored. Then the stunned silence gave way to whispers, each asking the others who she was. She wondered who would ask her first and how arrogant they would be. But what followed surprised her greatly.

Out of the crowd walked a young man full of confidence but not overly confident, more self assured and comfortable with who he was. While she had been a dark angel for the masquerade, he was a light demon. Like her he had a large pair of feathered wings on his back, only his were white while hers were midnight black. She stepped off the last step onto the ballroom floor when he finally reached her.

“I hope you do not think me too bold for asking, Mademoiselle, but may I have this dance.” With that he bowed from his waist and bowed his head while he extended his hand towards her. She was astounded, but of course no one could tell. This young man knew how to be chivalrous, and how to be confident but not over-bearing. There was something that made him different from the other guys in the schools but she couldn’t put her finger on it. She could hear all the whispers pause for a moment as they waited for her to answer, while the moment before it had doubled in sound because of the demons appearance. She reached out slowly and laid her gloved hand in his outstretched palm. He righted himself and gently closed his hand around hers as he led her to the dance floor. Everyone started to whisper at once and cleared a path for the two people to the dance floor. Everyone was asking each other who they thought the two really were.

They took the positions as their teachers had taught them. The demon boy carefully adjusted their still clasped hands, and then he very gently laid his hand on her waist. It was not afraid nor too bold just a little tentative as if he was afraid he would make a mistake. Silence then laid her hand on his shoulder and found it to be well toned. They were the perfect size for each other, the demon boy was several inches taller and they fit together like to pieces of a puzzle. The music started it was a slow waltz to warm up both the band and the students. They were both pleasantly surprised to find that they both were really good ballroom dancers. They started to sweep across the dance floor, the students who had stopped watching them after he had asked her to dance were again watching. There was not a single person in the room who didn’t wish they were one of the two. But the two made not sign that they knew any one else was in the room with them. When the demon twirled the angel it was breathtaking, their wings flared a little as if they really were an attachment of themselves and was reacting to their movements. The angel was a swirl of dark colors and flowers while the demon was bright and like ice.

While they danced Silence studied her mysterious partner. He had on knee length white cargo pants that looked strangely elegant. Then he had on dark midnight blue combat boots that went to just below his knee. He had on a pale, almost white, iridescent blue Chinese style shirt. It had a high neck and had the trim that went to the shoulder. And if you looked really closely you could see a dragon embroidered in white thread and it had glitter accenting it. On his arms he had on gem tattoos that spelled out things in Japanese, it made him really mysterious.  He had on a pair of white feathered wings that looked real, and a blue metallic demon tail that dragged on the ground after him. The strange part was that the tail didn’t get in the way and at times would seem to move on its own. Nestled in his hair was a pair of metallic blue demon horns that looked like they really had sprouted there. His hair was white as snow with blue tips and it was up in curly spikes, it really made him seem ethereal. His face was as intriguing as the rest of him, he had very clear features and it all seemed perfect. He did have some girlish hints but it added to the appearance. He was obviously really comfortable with himself because he had added light blue eye shadow generously around his eyes and then darkened his eye lashes to make his eyes really stand out. The mask that half covered his face was an iridescent blue that shimmered in the light; it had what almost looked like ice crystals all around the edges. The mask and the eye shadow really made his ice blue eyes seem to glow from his face. On top of his entire costume he had glitter every where his face seemed to have its own light. He was amazing, and Silence had never had an interest in anyone before, she didn’t have time there was only her missions.

“May I know the name of the one that has asked me to dance?” Silence asked leaning closer to him so she wouldn’t have to talk to loud.

“Yes you may, I am Sorrow. And may I know the name of the mysterious angel that has joined me?” He really was chivalrous. Silence almost chuckled to herself at the way she was flirting, she never flirted. And no one who knew what she really did called her an angel.

“I am Silence.” He smiled at her brightly, and for once she didn’t have the urge to beat up someone for their ignorance to all the pain that was going on. They kept dance in the companionable silence that formed as they concentrated on dancing.

Sorrow studied the angel before him as he danced. He took in every detail; he wanted to remember the evening without missing a thing. Silence though her face was half covered with a black mask that was surrounded by little fake roses, was absolutely striking. She had an impossible shade of midnight blue eyes that seemed to pierce right to your soul. She had dark eye shadow on and had fake long lashes on. On the tip of the lashes were small crystals that caught the light and made her eyes sparkle. She had on a simple black dress that looked very elegant on her. It had a deep red tie belt that looked like a ragged piece of fabric that hung down to her side making it look perfect. The dress was sleeveless and she had elbow length black gloves. The bodice of the dress was also lace up like the old fashioned corsets and it was black with the same deep red as the belt. Sorrow could not see her shoes from under the dress, but he had a small suspicion they were black combat boots. She had earrings all up her ears with simple hoops. Her hair was dark almost black with red highlights that looked natural. It fell in a cascade down her back to the lower part of her back with waves making it full. Upon her hair was a crown of dark almost blood red roses. Then she had a pair of striking black feathered wings on her back that looked real. Sorrow could even tell she smelled like roses.

“I’m sorry; I have held you away from everyone else for more than my requested dance.” Sorrow realized that they were in the middle of everyone else and everyone had been watching them dance, and dance for three dances. Sorrow didn’t want to leave, but he had only asked for one dance and it was too much to assume she would want to keep dancing with him. Besides there was every other guy in the place wanted to dance with her, and if she didn’t want to dance with him there was someone better to take his place.

A hand snaked out to his hand before he could turn away. Silence was reaching forward almost tentatively. “May I have the next dance, milord? She asked and curtsied to him. He couldn’t help the huge smile that split his face as he reached forward and took her hand again. She smiled tentatively at him again as if it was not something she was use to.

“Yes you may have this dance, and any other you want.” Sorrow whispered as he began to lead them through another waltz across the floor.

“May I ask what exactly you are trying to portray?” Silence asked as she gazed into his eyes as they continued their dance. A slow smile again split Sorrows face.

“I am the gray…” He started before she cut him off.

“…between the light…” Silence continued before she was cut off by Sorrow.

“…and the dark. How did you know?” he looked down into her eyes incredulously, she looked at him just as stunned.

“Because that was what I am, too. I guess I’m just the other face of this coin.” They were both still really stunned to find that there thinking had been mirrored by someone else, whom they were now dancing with.

“Would you like to go get some punch and go outside to talk for a while?” He saw her hesitate, “We can come back and dance afterwards, I just want to more about you.”

“Of course, I was just deciding where we would go outside. I think I know a nice spot.” Silence then took his hand and started to lead them towards the punch bowl. As they got there Sorrow poured two cups of punch and offered one to Silence, she accepted silently. They sipped from the cups as they headed to the door to the outside courtyard. Hey joined hands between them as they walked without realizing it. All those who had seen them that night agreed that they were a perfect couple and meant to be together. And anyone would tell you that their wings seemed alive, and would move. Sorrow’s tail also moved and no one had a very good explanation for it.
