Random Acts

By byrdgirl
I will not holler angry words

shake my first across the rift.

I will not be a minister

for preaching's not my gift.

And though we are at war

I will not wail and cry.

for what could my tears mean

to the thousands that will die?

Instead I will show courtesy

when stuck in traffic jams.

I'll reuse all my paper

and recycle all my cans.

I'll send letters to my friends

and telephone my family.

I'll spend and afternoon

just reading 'neath a tree.

I'll smile at strangers on the street,

say "Hi, how do you do?"

I'll show a little kindness

and ask that you do too.

There are the gifts God gave me

and though they might be small

I'll use them every day

for I'll cherish them all.

Random acts of kindness

may not stop this war

but I know in my heart and should

what I am fighting for.
