Story of a Madman
It was odd, being alone there in the street full of people. That’s what I was, alone. I was the only one there that knew… truly knew. But all that would change, I knew that it would. It was just a matter of time before all was revealed.
I had gone through this routine everyday. Sifting through a crowd of people, looking for the spark of light a person had in their eyes when they knew, or had some knowledge of what was supposed to be known. It was a tedious task, but I had to do it none the less. I knew I had to do it.
It had been three days now since the last time I had seen the spark. It was odd, because I usually saw three. Thinking back, I could remember once finding nine in one day, my personal record. It worried him that it had stopped. It had only stopped once before.
I had been in a… house of sorts, a house for people who had more than just a spark. Most of them had roaring bonfires in their eyes. There were those that also lived there that didn’t have it. They would force pills down my throat three times a day, always three. They stopped him from seeing the spark, stopped him from knowing. It was hell, which is why I left.
It created quite a commotion when I decided to move out. Those that didn’t know better tried to keep him locked up in the house. But I escaped and ran to the city. I knew that it would be safe there, that they couldn’t find him.
Stopping suddenly, I stared straight at another man in an alley, an inferno burning in his eyes bigger then I had ever seen in anyone’s eyes. This man knew, the guy probably knew more than I did myself.
"Y…You know…" I spluttered out at the man, "You know!"
"What? Get out of my way, I’m in a hurry." The man said trying to get around him.
"But… You know."
"Know what? If this is about money, I have none to give to the likes of you! Now move out of the way!"
"BUT… You KNOW!" I said clawing at the mans coat, "IT’S IN YOUR EYES!"
The man began to get worried and started trying to move me away from him, but it was no use. "Get off me!" the man shouted, "Move out of my way!"
"BUT YOU KNOW!" I shouted, almost shrieked, "YOU KNOW YOU KNOW YOU KNOW!"
The man began trying to shove me away, but it wasn’t working. In desperation, I dug my fingers into the man’s arms to keep hold of the man. He was flinging me every which way he could, trying to escape the truth. But he would see! I would make him see!
Throwing my whole body onto him I tackled him to the ground. "Get off me!" the man yelled, "Someone! HELP!"
"BUT YOU KNOW! CAN’T YOU SEE IT? I SEE IT IN YOUR EYE’S!" I tried to explain. Maybe if I pointed it out? "SEE IT! ITS IN YOUR EYES!" I began poining at his eyes to show him, but he continued to thrash. So I pointed closer.
"HELP! HEEEEELP!" The man continued to scream, but I knew no one would. This was meant to be. I was meant to show him. I knew I was meant to show him!
"LOOK!" I shrieked, pointing even closer. I touched it, I touched the fire, and it burned. "LOOK! IT IS HERE! IT IS IN YOUR EYES! Why don’t you see it?" The burning felt good, I wanted more, so I pointed… even closer.
The only response the man gave was his screaming. Such beautiful screaming. The fire began to pour out of the man’s eye as I shoved my finger ever closer to it. The fire was on my finger now. Odd, how it was liquid. I wanted more.
The man continued to scream, and people began peering into the ally to see what was happening. That didn’t matter though, I would not be distracted while I worked. I wanted more fire!
"Can’t you see it now?" I asked, pulling out my finger and showing the fire to him, "Cant you see it? Isn't it beautiful?" The man only screamed. "Did I take it away from you? Is that why you are screaming? Don’t worry, you have more, right here." I said pointing to his other eye. The screaming stopped as the second eye began to pour out its fire.
Odd, how he stopped screaming all of the sudden like that. Why would he suddenly shut up? Licking the fire off my finger, I looked around to find the cause. That’s when I saw the wall. A huge face stood there looking down at me, eyed full of fire, mouth opened wide, ready to bite at any moment.
I began to scream. Screaming was all I could do. Hours passed by, my voice dwindled to a hoarse exhaling sound, but the face was still there. I was getting sleepy. My vision faded into blackness, and I fell asleep.
My dreams were full of the face chasing me through an endless maze of allies. When I finally woke up, I found myself in a small room with walls of bars around me. It was the inside of his mouth! The face ate me in my sleep! Oh dear God!
And that’s where I am today. Spending my life in the Face’s stomach. I’m not alone, though. There are many here with the spark. I will make them see the spark, and then we will escape this wretched hellhole!
The End!
