Broken SoulsWaiting

Dahvid Bronanovski sat at the table in his dimly lit room.  The room is the main room of a small secluded house.  Its walls and floors are wooden and although sturdy are in need of cleaning and repair in places.

The floorboards creak as Dahvid shifts his weight in the old wooden chair.  He continues to stare at the picture in his hand, a glassy eyed look about him.  His eyes are a dark brown and the mop of black hair on his head is greasy.

The naked bulb hanging from the ceiling directly above the centre of the table casts its light down to shine off of the glossy picture and makes Dahvid’s skin seem even more pale than usual.

In a trance and absorbed by the silence around him, he continues to stare at the photo of a young woman.  She has long black hair hanging over her shoulders and has one hand at the back of her head, leaning back in a pose for the photographer.  Dahvid had been the photographer and now as he stared at the picture he had taken, his mind rushed him back to its creation.

The beautiful woman’s dark eyes had seemed to sparkle at him as she laughed and struck the pose.

While he was with her, Dahvid had never been able to take his eyes from her and even now, just looking at her photo he found that he could not look away.  Not that he wanted to.  Looking at her was his favourite pass time and he often came out here away from the city to this old cabin deep in the woods just to be alone with her.  Of course she wasn’t really there in the little shack with him, but in the mind of this man so close to madness, she was there in so many ways.  He often thought he could smell her perfume, or sense her nearby.

These days he had taken to spending more and more time here until now he recognised this place as his home and not the house he paid for in the city.

The cold truth of reality was almost forgotten to him and when he did remember that she had spoken harshly to him, telling him to go and never speak to her again, he became angry.  David knew that they belonged together and it was only that she couldn’t see that fact and had yet to realise her love for him that was keeping them apart.

A plan had formed in his warped mind, a way for them to be together and for her to realise that she did love him far more than she had ever thought.

All Dahvid had to do he decided, was to bring her here to the woods where they could be alone together.  Then she’d see, then she’d know who it was she was in love with.  She’d apologise for hurting him, for breaking his heart.  She’d say how sorry she was for all the months of anger that he’d been through, anger that came from the loneliness of being without her.  Then she’d kiss him and their love would flourish.  They’d be together forever and she’d love him and no other for the rest of her life.

Dahvid knew his plan would work.  It had to, because this was true love.

The voice in his mind told him so and urged him on towards his dark plan.

The night rolled on and Dahvid smiled as he continued to look at the picture in his hand.

“Soon” he whispered to himself.
