Chapter 3

It was a long walk to the main floor. Especially since the hallway was filled with students eager to leave the campus. She yearned for her notebook back, and she wished for the school year to end. Most of all, she longed for her fifteenth birthday. It was always the saddest time of the year for her, but she endured it. Only on her birthday would her father even speak to her. Though he only spoke two words, it still showed that he cared for her. It gave her hope that maybe one day, she would live a normal, happy life.

As she stumbled through the hallway, she felt two hands push her from behind. She felt her left arm begin to burn as she fell to the ground. Three girls loomed over her, all with dirty looks on their faces. One of them held her notebook. This girl seemed angered the most. She tried to stand, but another girl kicked her in the ankle, forcing her to fall back on the ground. She recognized the girls. They were all in the same class just a few minutes ago. The girl with the notebook was named Miura, but everyone called her by her first name, Tamaki.

“Yuhara-kun is mine, freak.” She dropped the notebook on the ground and stepped on it before walking away with her friends.

The notebook was open to a drawing of a handsome boy, sitting near the front of the classroom. His head rested upon the palm of his right hand that was propped on the desk by his elbow. His hair was arranged to cover his eyes, but there was still a glimmer of bright blue beneath the layer of auburn hair. The rest of the room was depicted in the picture as well, but the boy was drawn the brightest, clearest, and most colorful.

She brushed off the notebook, closed it, and placed it inside her book bag. Her left elbow was bleeding and her right hand was scuffed. She attempted to stand, but her left ankle throbbed with pain. While holding onto the windowsill, she limped down the hall. She knew she was going to create trouble for her family. Her father was going to be furious.
