Morning Eyes

Too early in the morning
Eyes would rather be shut
Unaccustomed to illumination
Incandescent lighting
Sunlight headlights or otherwise
Maladjusted to brightness
Rather be as a flower
Opening its bright center
When time and sun align
Slowly adapting to the daylight
Once completely assure
Welcomes day and its wisdom
For now I’ll squint
With narrowed eyes
Waiting for adjustment
The stationary sun
Patiently awaits me
Allowing me the time I need
Awaiting my readiness
