Winter Scene

The icy wind bites

As I trudge through the angry storm

My intent unmarred

By the sea of white

The foot of the hill

Challenges my purpose

Slowly and surely

The mountain is conquered

The world below

Beckons to me

To be Earth’s child

And not the mountain’s

The sled’s on the ground

Waiting for me

Wanting to return

And rejoin the world

The stars of white

Dance before my eyes

As I race past

The still white ocean

Back on Earth

I glance at the fallen mountain

Proud but broken

And vow to conquer again
