Summary- Locke is a Thief Princess, born into a life of danger and excitement. But when trouble threatens her guild, she must go on a dangerous journey- a journey she doesn't want to make. But she has no choice, for her life- and the lives of all her fellow thieves- hang in the balance.
AN- Before I begin I wanted to let you know that this story has absolutely nothing to do with me (my name has to do with it). I wrote The Thief Princess then decided Locke would be a cool penname so don't go thinking this is a self-insert story.
Chapter One- Through the Eyes of a Child
On the desk, in my room, sits a single picture. The picture is of my late mother who died twelve years ago.
My name is Locket Stone, better known as Locke. Mainly because I'm the only child thief in Bashile. Well, I'm not really a child, the moment you turn thirteen you're considered an adult and you're supposed to make it on your own. I'm fourteen, fast and small. I didn't even have to move out when I turned thirteen last year, I've lived in the thieves' guild my whole life. You see, my father, Dathaniel, is a thief, as was my mother. And for all that I've got a two grandmothers and a grandfather who wouldn't steal a single shinel (Rosalina's currency).
I have dirty blonde (tangled!) hair and purplish-blue eyes. You'd never guess I was a Thief Princess. My father's the king. Miya (who in no way is in love with my father or even related to him) is queen. And me, being the only child and a daughter of Thief Royalty (not really royalty though, more later) is left with princess.
Well okay, so the best male thief is the king, the best female thief is the queen and the king's and queen's children are the princes and princesses. When the king dies, the next best thief takes his place (NOT the oldest prince unless he's the best). Anyone can challenge the king or queen to a Thief's Dual the winner is crowned.
Father wants me to challenge Miya to a dual. No, I like Miya, she's a good queen and I like my position among the Ladies of the Thief Court (High Princess), plus Miya and I are best friends, we scheme and dream and go on adventures. Miya is eighteen; she has long black hair and cocoa brown eyes, really pretty. Miya's an Elf, so she's tall with pointed ears, talented and clever, I'd never beat her anyway.
The guild sits underground; the entrance is beneath the tavern. This peaceful town isn't really that peaceful with us around! Bashile Village is filled with sorcerers, warriors, Elves, humans, witches, every imaginable race, yet there's only about thirty thieves, all of which are Elves and humans.
Oh yes, little Lockie's a thief, and a very good one at that. I keep everything I've stolen in a large chest at the foot of the bed. Am I worried about the other thieves? No. We have a code of honor; we never steal from those who will suffer greatly from it (the lords have better things anyway). We never steal from each other, and we never rat out on each other to guards or soldiers.
Well, guards have only caught me once, seven or eight years ago. Miya came to my rescue, since then we've been the best of friends.
I love this life, filled with adventure and fun. Love and peaceful happiness. We have parties every night and I'm truly happy when I'm dancing with my father. Sure, I'd love to fall in love but then I'd be planted. Now, who wants that?
