Fall To Darkness

Blacker than the dark of night
A seemingly endless gap
Utterly devoid of warmth or light
Indeed a most gloomy trap

Falling down into this pit
Time passes without a care
Unconsciously, I have been made to submit
Brainwashed and unaware

Darkness has corrupted my heart
Continually it leads me on
From light I move farther apart
The white is simply gone

Dropping lower than ever before
I slowly awaken from my sleep
Yet my conscience I continue to ignore
For I have simply fallen so deep

Struggle a little as I may
What good does it do?
Already I have lost my way
All seems so askew

And then through the despair
Shines a single line
The answer to my prayer
Hope leading to what once was mine

Steadily I follow it back
Despite the falls along the way
Slowly crawling away from black
‘Til night turns to day

Looking back, I ask why?
What caused so great a fall?
And suddenly, an answer to my cry
There is darkness in us all.
