Author's Note- This isn't quite up to par with my other stories. I wrote it a few years ago so it's not as good as the others.
They painted up your secrets

With the lies they told to you

And the least they ever gave you

Was the most you ever knew

And I wonder where these dreams go

When the world gets in your way

What's the point in all this screaming

No one's listening anyway

Thinking back I think that I would still stop my car. I was on a back road trying to calm down before I went home. Up ahead I heard a scream. A car sped past me. Up ahead I saw a man lying on the ground in a pool of blood. I stopped and got out approaching the man with trepidation. I knelt beside him and felt for a heartbeat, as I did he opened his eyes.

"Are you okay?" I asked.

"You've got-" he started then went into a coughing fit coughing up blood. "Outta here." I was convinced that he was delirious. I pulled out my cell phone and was about to dial 911 but he reached out a hand to stop me. "You can't do that. They'll find me."

"Who will find you?" I asked confused. Just then the car that had passed me drove back up.

"Hurry!" he whispered. "Run!" I was convinced that if he wasn't delirious he was insane but I couldn't leave him there, he could be dying. A strikingly handsome man got out. His dark brown hair shone in the moonlight. "Xavier." A chill ran down my back as his dark blue eyes accessed the situation. With the chill came realization, this guy was dangerous.

"Rick," the Xavier said. He walked towards the wounded man. "How many time have I covered for you? I was going to let you go!"

"Then why were you here?" Rick asked.

"To find someone to take your place," Xavier said. I stood slowly. Xavier turned to me with a soft smile. "Which I have." Suddenly I was terrified but before I could react his eyes caught mine. I felt dizzy and tired. "Sit down." I obeyed.

"Don't do this to her," Rick pleaded.

"This was it," Xavier said turning back to Rick. "You ran away ten times. Each time I brought you back. I lied for you! But this it I've had it. I refuse to lie again." He sighed looking at Rick. "It'll be a while before anyone finds you."

"By then the girl will be dead," Rick said. I snapped back to reality at those words. I started to move but Xavier pinned me with his gaze.

"It doesn't matter if she runs," he said. "I'll just catch up with her. If I don't someone else will find her." He took a deliberate step closer. "They might not be so nice. Now, you seem like a nice pretty girl. You stopped on a back road in the middle of the night a little naive but still." he let that sentence trail off.

Rick went into another coughing fit. Xavier turned to him. When he did I started running. I had left my purse beside Rick and my keys were inside it so I ran into the woods. I didn't hear him behind me. I ran until I ran out of breath. Then I stopped behind a tree to rest. I didn't hear anything so I stepped out. That was a mistake. When I stepped out Xavier tackled me pinning me to the ground. He didn't seem at all tired. "Damn," I muttered under my breath.

"Watch that language," he said in a mock-offended voice. He then regarded me. "This is interesting you laying here breathing like that." I was terrified but he just laughed and pulled me to my feet. "Let's go," he ordered. He took my arm and led me out of the woods a much shorter way then I had come.

"He's dead," I whispered looking at Rick's body. Xavier nodded. "Are you going to kill me?"

"No," Xavier said. "You're worth a lot."

I leaned against his van feeling like I wouldn't be able to stand. "What?"

"I'm not exactly what you'd refer to as human," he told me. "I don't know how to prove it to you. Anyhow, my job is to find escaped slaves or new ones."

"Which is where I come in," I guessed. He nodded. "What did you mean by not human?"

"I guess I'll have to show you," he said. He closed his eyes as if meditating and began to shift. I gasped as he became a gray wolf. He shifted back and stood. "Satisfied?"

"Before," I said thinking. "You were doing something to my mind."

He smirked. "And the ten dollar prize goes to." he trailed off. "I work for vampires." I was stunned.

"Vampires?" I asked barely able to speak.

"Yes," he said sort of boredly as if he had heard that many times before. "I work for the undead. They taught me that. It makes their victims easier to control." At that moment his cell phone rang. "If you move from that spot-" he didn't finish the warning nor did he have to, his eyes spoke the threat. "Hello. Yeah, Rick's dead. I have a replacement. Female. Hang on. How old are you?"

"Sixteen," I told him.

"Your name?" he asked. I hesitated. His eyes narrowed slightly. I could read the unspoken threat in those dark eyes.

"`Maddy," I told him.

He raised an eyebrow then reported what I had told him. "She's roughly one thirty, five seven. Blonde hair hazel eyes. Okay. Yeah I know the drill. Bye." He walked over to my car and put it in neutral pushing it down the hill into the woods. He then picked up my purse and put it in his van. He pulled a pair of handcuffs put them on me. I looked at him confused.

"Precaution," he told me then winked. "Although it does hold potential." Despite the situation I blushed. He studied me thoroughly then looked into my eyes a smirk crossing his face. "You're a virgin." I didn't respond. He opened the passenger side of his van motioning for me to get in. I thought briefly about running but it didn't do me any good last time so I got into the van. He shut the door and got in the other side.

"Where are we going?" I asked softly.

"You've been crying," Xavier noticed. "Why?"

"Could we not talk about my personal life?" I asked coolly.

"We could talk about mine," Xavier said brightly. "Like how I killed this- "

"What do you want to know?" I asked interrupting him.

He smiled again. "How about why you're out past curfew?"

"I was at a get-together," I explained.

"Ah," Xavier said. "A fight with your guy."

"I don't know what you're talking about," I said looking away sharply. I wasn't about to let this guy see me in pain.

"I'm right," he said confidently. He placed a finger under my chin forcing me to look into his eyes they were surprisingly gentle. "You broke up." He smiled again. "From the looks of it he did something big."

"Could we not talk about this?" I said trying to hide my humiliation.

"He did it with your best friend?" Xavier asked shocked. "Wow." I hid my head in my handcuffed hands. I could hear the smirk in his voice as he said: "Poor thing." He actually went as far as to pat my head. His hand then just touched my hair almost caressing it. I raised my head and turned towards the window as he started the car and began driving. I could tell that Xavier was growing tired.

"We're going to end up getting into an accident," I said.

"I know," Xavier said in the midst of a yawn. "I'll pull over when we find a hotel." He pulled over at what looked like a deserted building. "This will work."
