Between Fire and Ice
An Address to Mr, Robert Frost
By Jordi Sharpe

If I must choose between fire and ice,

I would be forced to settle on fire.

The warmth and color are certainly nice,

and fire will aid you when most in dire.

However, as we all know, fire is the light

that brings warmth to us, as well as life,

so fire’s end to us would not be right;

indeed, it is ice that should end our strife.

More to the point, desire brings us kin,

and therefore, fire only builds us.

So ice should release us from our sin

while fire shall stay to warm us.

Alas, dear Mr. Frost, I’d love to end in fire,

and see that destruction ice is as great.

But only ice can bring the end, sire.

For I will meet an end but once, at a later date.
