We're Living History
Walk in, drop books,
Slump in my chair
For another boring class of History.
The battles that were won and lost,
The years of one more revolution,
Slide on by me like water.
Who cares or needs to know?
Just numbers and faceless names.
Then the announcement comes on,
"Teachers, don't turn on your TV."
Walk in, drop books,
Sit in my chair,
For an hour's worth of history.
I live it now, the battles there
In these years of revolution
On the river of change
All care, demand to know
These names have well-known faces.
The numbers count the breaths I take,
As I'm glued to my TV.
We're living history.
