Stone Angel

Perched upon the tomb of cold rock She swallows the key to her heart's steel lock Her eyes stare at nothing, yet all Waiting for her chance to die, to fall From the graces of Heaven, from the light She wants to fade, into the darkest night Tears of coldest sapphires trickle down As mocking as the smiling face on a weeping clown Her broken heart destroys her testament, her will Her identity is as whole now, as a broken flag upon the hill No one remembers who she really was, or is Her memory is the one they all will miss Left alone to cry in the dark of the nether-realm She cannot even collapse when her body is overwhelmed Her granite body yields to none The only light she sees is the stars- never has she seen the sun She doesn't want to find the way back 'home' Because none know her, her soul exists alone Everyone turns a blind eye to her sorrow, her pain Alone she watches the moon continually wax and wane No one stops to ask her health, her feelings, her thoughts They all want to keep on going, find what they sought She doesn't - can't - love because her heart is bound Her feet are tied firm upon the unyielding ground Even so, her mind soars above the skies Upon wings of marble, formed by 'who's, and 'why's Because she is forever chained to this cracking tombstone She will stay young, even as her friends have grown Her mind throws itself at its mental cage and tries to break out Her face still cannot betray any emotion- she can't even pout The delicacy of her features stays intact, unaffected by time Yet, never again will she taste the sweetness of sugar, or the tang of wine Trapped forever in a shell of concrete, her tired soul continues to silently cry Even as her upturned stone face smiles into the cruelly beautiful sky No one cares to look as vines grow over the silvery gray wonder None see the stone angel until it's her feet they're buried under Please don't cry, cold, lonely stone angel- I know you're there and I worship you I will always listen to your silent pleas, and I'll do all I can do.

Stone Angel None are like you You're the one I've been looking after.
