Tokyo secrets

Episode 1

The copper girl and the lavender boy

Jewel bright sapphire eyes glared out from under thick fringes of black eyelashes. Their target was a boy three rows in front of the said owner's desk in the small Japanese school. The boy had soft eyes of a kind purple and matching hair. The girl hated this boy for his innocence. If she had to live the life she did, then nobody should be able to have that kind of innocent joy sparkling in their eyes. Fifteen-year-old Hikaru Katana brushed her copper-red bangs out of her face and straightened up as the teacher entered the room.

"Accursed fools." She muttered to herself. "What right have they to be so damned happy?"

In quiet bitterness she glared at her leather garbed right hand. Beneath the black shield of the biking gloves her palms were full of scares. Some of, which were self-inflicted, true, but the majority of which had been gifted to her by her father's hand. Clenching her hand into a fist she growled slightly, but then turned her attention to pretending to listen to her teacher. She was so preoccupied in her musing that Hikaru failed to note the curious glance that a certain lavender haired youth gave her.

Outside the school the wind blew with an unusual strength. Hikaru opened her lunch and began to eat her sandwich. Growling in disgust she stared at the molding bread and sour cheese. Didn't her mother care if she died from stomach cancer inflicted from eating mold and bad cheese? Laughing softly in bitter realization she shook her head, causing her hair to shimmer in the midday sun as it flew gently around her face. She had inflicted this loneliness upon herself. She was the one who had declined every offer of friendship or romance that had come her way since the day she had first begun school. Yes, she had done this to herself. There was no one left to blame except her.

"It's my fault." She whispered. "It's all my fault!"

"I think you have a self-esteem problem." A friendly sounding voice laughed.

Silently she turned to meet the bright lavender eyes meeting her own piercing blue ones.

"Thanks kid." She muttered turning away again. "It's not like I don't have enough problems."

"Sorry, Hikaru." He mumbled sheepishly. "I don't know why, he would do this to you."

Hikaru stayed quiet for a long time, just starring at the boy.

"Who are you?" she asked softly. "What do you want with me?"

There was something supernatural about this boy. Something she definitely didn't like.

"Akira, and I want nothing more than to open your eyes to the beauties life can provide." He smiled; the wind had picked up and was tossing his hair along with hers now.

"Life provides no beauties for you to show me, Akira." She growled. "Life is full of nothing but hate and tragedy!" Then, tossing her moldy sandwich aside, she stood and ran off.

"Hikaru, you have so much to learn." Akira muttered after her. "Life can give you so much more than you're allowing." He stooped down and picked a golden flower. "So much more."

Having arrived at her house, Hikaru opened her grandmother's old name dictionary.

"Aha!" She cried joyously having found the proper name of desire. "Akira, m. intelligence… brightness." She slammed the book shut, her mind straying to the strangely bright boy who had stood before her at school. "A fitting name, Akira." She muttered. "I intend to find out the rest of your story though."

Then she turned out her light and climbed into bed. She would think of the strange boy, Akira, in the morning.

"After all…" she murmured as she prepared for slumber, "tomorrow is another day."

To be continued…
