Reminiscence

A flash of inspiration
Filled my mind
Blackened charred
Remains of yester-year
I've walked so long
On crumbling brisket
Feeling underfoot
Sense bitter darkest
Powder on my feet

Climb mountains
High of names
So very deep
Yet realising now
Through many years
Of salty dirt filled
Taste was bitter tears

Now lying on
This pyre
I see the sun
Smell flesh so searing
Has begun
And inspiration
Beams of art

How charcoal was
So useful paved my life
Throughout so
Scenes of joy
Thus now as
Goodbyes close
To brightened day
I picture charcoal
Where I lay
