The Plight of the Unicorndria

Prologue

A shrill cry echoed through the gloomy branches of the moss-covered trees in a dark forest. A young girl with luminous white hair and clear blue eyes ran as fast as her small feet could carry her, not looking behind her as if her life depended on it. In fact, it did. A tall, burly man chased swiftly after her, a grin playing across his face. He knew he was faster than the girl, and he knew she would most likely tire quickly.

As the handsome man reflected these things upon himself, the girl had touched the crystal around her neck, producing large, white wings that sprouted from her back. Before the man knew it, she had taken flight and was slowly gaining distance between herself and her pursuer. The man, still in his reverie, quickly snapped out of it and watched as the winged girl began to soar through the crystal-clear moonlit sky. But, little did the girl know, this was no ordinary man. This was Suzaku the Great.

Suzaku the Great had been nothing but a myth to all the people of the small villages dotting the rolling hillsides. He was believed to live deep underground in a deserted area. He supposedly had been a great ruler back before humans came to be. He ruled the land, having control over any creature he so desired. But, as humans evolved, they became smarter than Suzaku, although nowhere near as powerful as he. Suzaku feared these new creatures; afraid they would find him and somehow ruin his ultimate plans of world domination. Suzaku found himself a dark, secluded, underground "lair" and contained himself, along with a few hundred minions, there.

Until now.

He needed the blood of the Susume to survive forever, which was his ultimate plan. This Susume was the guardian of the Unicorndria, a magical gem that contains a plethora of power and energy to whoever is the keeper. That single gemstone contained more power than he could ever imagine. That is why he felt he must catch her.

He had been planning this for years now, waiting for the right time and the right keeper to stumble across his path. He knew he must wait until a full moon, or the sacrifice would not work. This sacred ritual consisted of a sacrifice and transfer of energy. He was so sure of himself and his plan that he could taste her pure blood on his lips.

The Susume looked down below her, expecting to see the man struggling, but only saw him gaining on her ever so slowly. She quickly swooped behind some rather large forest foliage, hoping to avoid the man. Little did she know he could climb trees like a squirrel.

Not more than three seconds later, a large arm wrapped around her petite frame and sent her crashing down to the earth. As she struggled to keep conscious, the man placed his hands around her tiny neck.

"Well, well, well. Look what we have here."

All the girl could see was a moonlit silhouette of a man whose hands were slowly but surely clenching tighter around her neck. A stifled whisper managed to escape her lips. "W-who are you and w-what do you w-want with me?"

The man, sensing her energy leaving her feeble body, sniggered heartily. Instead of squeezing until all her breath was gone, he decided to have a little fun. He removed his hands from her neck, and placed one hand under her chin, forcing her to look him straight in his cold, blue-gray eyes. "You, my dear, have two things that I want very badly. One would be this," he motioned to the amulet hanging from her bruised neck, "and, as much as I would like you to see me take over the world, I'm afraid I must drink that pure blood running through your veins." A smug smile played across his face as he ran his fingers along her arm, tracing her veins.

The small girl shuddered and struggled to get out of his grasp, but to no avail. He just kept smiling a demented, purely evil smile at her, sensing her fear. He was just about to bite his teeth into her neck, when she started to glow. He stepped back and watched, not knowing what was going on. She began to glow more and more, before she was completely engulfed in the light. The man shielded his eyes from the bright light, and before he knew it, she had exploded into millions of fragments of white. The man stood there, looking at the spot where the girl once stood.

The girl had exploded, but not before hiding the amulet in a secret spot to never be found, and never to fall into Suzaku's or anyone's hands ever again.

He suddenly screamed in rage at the empty spot on the ground. He stormed off to his secluded lair once more to wait. He knew she had hid the amulet, and he would wait until a descendant of the Susume would be born; no matter how long it took him.
