He propped his head on the metal fence in front of the stone for sale sign had a red sold sticker pasted acorss it. He wondered who lived there, because he hadn't seen any movers come in or out. There wasn't a car in the driveway either so he wondered if someone actually had moved in or not.
"Tetsuri, daydreaming again huh?" He raised his head to see his friend Kenechi standing there a big grin on his face.
"Not really. Just wondering if anyone lives in that house. You know how I am."
"I guess. Whatever. We have to hurry or we'll be late to school." Kenechi walked over to him and took Tetsuri's head in a head lock.
"Kenechi! Stop it leave me alone!" Tetsuri yelled grabbing Kenechi's arms and trying to pull them off his head. Finally Kenechi let the hold go, and laughed as Tetsuri rubbed his neck, glaring evily at him.
"Ah, you know I was just jokin. Come on let's get to school."
* * * She brushed her hair, staring at the pale skinned figure in the reflection. Her skin was like ivory, and she looked so frail with such dark black hair. A black cat meowed, jumping into her lap. Smiling she set down her brush and stroked his soft fur.
"Gata, should we try some magic tonight?" The cat raised his head, mewing excitedly. "Wonderful. Maybe we could try the flying spell again, I'm sure I've got it down this time." The cat's eyes narrowed as he recalled the memory of crashing into the willow tree after only thirty seconds in the air. The girl snickered as she nudged the cat out of her lap and onto the floor.
"I have to get out of my night gown. It's late. I can't believe how late I stayed up. " Gata's head tilted, doubting her statement.
"Alright, Alright. I can believe how late I stayed up. I can't help it, the darkness entices me so. I work best under the moon." She let her nightgown slide to the floor and found a more suitable outfit. She prefered the color black above all others, being a witch and all, but was sometimes known to wear the occasional white and orange. She checked the time on her watch. "Oh I forgot, today is my first day at school. Wish me luck Gata."
Gata meowed and made a sound like he was clearing his throat. "Whatever, do as you please. I'll go flirt with the siamese hottie across the street. Just don't try any voodoo on the kids okay."
"I promise I'll be good. Besides, I can't preform magic at school anyway. I wouldn't even want to consider that." Gata lept up on the window sill, turning his head to face her.
"Just make sure you behave. I don't want to use my collected magic all at once just to come get you alright?"
The witch smiled and nodded her head. "Can do Gata. I have to get to school!" * * *
"Hey Tetsuri, whatcha doing?" He raised his head to look at Suu, she was exceptionally pretty today, her long brown hair sweeping past her as she walked over to him. Her brown eyes sparkled as she sat on his desk.
"Just drawing, it's what I like to do. " He showed her the piece he was working on. Her eyes got big, and she lept off the desk.
"It's really nice, but I have to go to my seat!" With that Suu ran to her desk on the other side of the room. Tetsuri sighed and looked at his picture. He didn't think it was so bad. It showed a woman sitting in a chair with a black gown. In her right hand she held a bloody dagger and on the table next to her laid a the bloody remains of a dove. He did his best to draw a glowing orb. Basically it was a witch who had to ofer a sacrifice of a dove to use her magic. He thought it was one of his best drawings.
"No one understands me," he sighed putting his sketchbook in his book bag. Their teacher entered the room and all off the students stood while he took his seat at his desk. Then before the students could take thier own seats, Fujisawa cleared his throat.
"Class we have a new student with us today named Mao Hikage. Miss Mao take any free seat you would like." She bowed and walked down the aisles of desks and chose the one next to Tetsuri. He stared at her with an open mouth, and she smiled winking at him. After she sat down, Mr. Fujisawa began his lecture. Tetsuri tried to pay attention but his eyes kept wandering to her. He thought she was beautiful with her dark eyes and glossy black hair. She wasn't wearing school uniform, and looked like the type that never would.
She sighed and whispered, "I'm Hikage, who are you?"
"Tetsuri. Where did you come from?"
"I used to live in Salem, Massachusetts in America. Tokyo is very new for me, but my parents were from here so I remember a little about it."
"Cool, what is it like in America? I've always liked to go there, or Europe."
"It's wonderful. There's a lot of things to do to pass time. Oh shh he's looking this way." They silenced until Mr. Fujisawa turned to face the window again. By this time Tetsuri was fasinated with her. She was the first girl who had talked to him because she wanted to, and not on a dare. With the exception of Suu of course. Now was the final test.
"Would you like to see my drawings?" He whispered. She smiled nodding her head. He dug in his bookbag, pulling out his sketchbook. He shut his eyes, inhaling deeply then exhaling. He scribbled a note on a piece of paper, slipping it into the sketchbook. Handing it over to her delicate hand she placed it on her desk, flipping through the pages. Her eyes became wide when it came to the witch drawing along with the note.
:It reminds me of you: She took her pencil out, scribbling a note back to him. She handed the sketchbook back, Tetsuri grabbed it, taking the note out.
:It's beautiful Tetsuri. You captured the scene perfectly. You're a great artist.: Raising his head to look at her, she smiled winking to him. His cheeks flushed a bit, and quickly pulled his history book to his face, hiding his crimson cheeks.
After school, he saw Hikage walking alone down the sidewalk.
"Hey Hikage! Wait up!" She turned around smiling making her grey eyes sparkle. He caught up with her and they had a chat about school and other things. Finally they reached her house and Tetsuri was in awe. It was the house he had stood in front of this morning.
"Well this is my house. Maybe I'll see you around. I don't think that school is working out for me. I'm thinking homeschool." She smiled bowing quickly to him, making her black hair pool around her shoulders. "See ya around Tetsuri,"winking to him, she ran inside the house.
Tetsuri stood doubfounded in front of the house. Did she live alone? Did she have any friends? He was upset that she had decided not to come to school, but maybe when he got to know her better he would ask her to go back to school.
THE NEXT MORNING
There was a loud knock at her door and a black cat on her face. Grunting, Hikage pushed Gata off of her face, sliding out of bed. Sunlight showed through the window, and, putting on her robe, she opened the window to see who was knocking at the door.
"Who is it?" She called looking below her. She saw Tetsuri come out hand waving.
"Wanna do something today?" He called up to her. Even from the ground he could see her beautiful smile.
"Sure, I'll be down in a second to let you in." Tetsuri was almost disappointed that she had to leave the window to answer the door. She was so pretty, he couldn't keep his eyes off her. He saw the door open, and she was still in her nightgown.
"Come on in, Tetsuri. I have to get ready but you can sit there and wait. I shouldn't be long." She skipped up a beautiful spiral black metal staircase and out of sight.
Tetsuri looked around. It was really dark in the house, a creepy dark. A skull was on a table with a candle that its wax had dripped down around it. There were amulets and different colored candles everywhere.
"I'm ready!" Tetsuri let out a boyish scream, before he heard Hikage's laughter. He put his hand behind his head laughing with her. "Let's go." She said, her gray eyes sparkling with intrest. Tetsuri nodded and escorted her out of her house.
It seems that taking her out of the house for fun was not a good idea. Tetsuri couldn't help but bring his camera and take pictures of her smiling, laughing, and making funny faces. Hikage was wonderful, they were alike in so many ways. She liked all the anime and manga he did, and she enjoyed the arcade as well. He took her into an ice cream store to get something to eat. While they were eating, Hikage's eyes changed. A yellowish tint shimmied it's way into her iris. Tetsuri was a little startled.
"Uh, Hikage is something wrong?" Her hand snapped out, an index finger landing softly on his lips.
"Shh. Not now." Turning her head, he noticed a figure with blue hair and silver eyes. She stared at him intently, watching every move he made which ended when he left the store. She stood in a trance-like way following him out of the store. Tetsuri, confused, followed her. * * * * * * *
"What are you doing here Sai? I thought you had left Japan." The blue haired man grinned turning around to face Hikage.
"Ha, and let a novice like you practice magic here without a proper user licensce? I think not. Daisuke sent me here to keep track of you. Already you've made a human friend. You make me sick Hikage."
"Shut up baka! I am not a novice in my speciality." She threw her right fist into the air, and black sparks shot out of it. "You might be good with water, but I'm good with the strongest magic, black magic. Hokage Aku!" The sparks flew out of her hand, hurling itself toward Sai in a black dragon form. He laughed slapping it away.
"Child's play. Ack!" Instantly he grabbed his hand. It felt like a thousand needles had been stabbed into it.
"You see Sai, the thing about the Shade Flame Dragon is that if thrown off course, he leaves his poison flame needles. More escruciating than the actual attack. That's why I used it cause you were going to act all supreme and block it. Now leave me alone."
He still clutched his hand, stroking it delicately. He saw it now with his spirit awareness. Twenty fiery black needles were stabbled through his hand. "Bitch," he muttered painfully,"You'll pay."
"Oh and by the way, tell Daisuke I don't need protecting." Sai grimaced angrily and disappeared in a blue flood of swirling water. Hikage sighed a relief, then noticed Tetsuri had seen the whole thing.
"Tetsuri please don't be afraid. I won't hurt you." Tetsuri just stood in shock.
"That was so....AWESOME!" Hikage looked up smiling.
"I think we'll be good friends Tetsuri."
