Hi everyone! I’m so sorry that it’s taken me so long to update. I’ve been busy, and now I finally have access to a computer with Internet. I want to finish the story, and I already have an ending planned, but it’s just hard filling in to get to that part. Just bare with me, and hopefully I can bring this story to a successful close.
Saru
Daisuke sat on a throne, he large crimson cloak swept out on the steps leading to his chair. His head was sleepily placed on the open palm of his hand, as if he were bored. Sai came up to the steps before dropping on one knee and bowing his head low.
“My liege.”
“Ah, Sai. You have come back. I’m shocked that all attempts against capturing Hikage have failed this horribly. What do you have to say for yourself?” Daisuke’s eyes opened, glowing beneath the long bangs of his black hair. One was a deep green, almost as green as an emerald with red flecks inside. Their contrast against the green sparkled and seemed to look like an illusion. His other eye was silver, the kind of silver that the finest jewelry was made of. Bright gold outlined the silver where the blackness of the pupil should have been. Instead of being set against the whiteness of the eye, there was only black, making the colors show out more than they would have against the normal white.
“I’m sorry to disappoint you my lord. It seems she is stronger than we once knew, or expected…obtaining her has become, more how do you say, challenging.”
“I thought you liked a challenge Sai. I’m saddened that you seem to have given up so easily. Maybe you should be punished, or should I find someone else more suited for the job?” Daisuke’s voice was harsh. He was annoyed from Sai’s ignorance.
“My lord!” Daisuke’s eyes raised themselves to the door. A girl walked proudly down the length of the hallway, her light blue hair flowing behind her in a ponytail. Her eyes were silver, and they seemed to shine with something un-natural. A navy trench coat flowed behind her, matching her light blue tube top and short blue skirt. She wore high-heeled navy anklet boots that laced up, and the ribbons from the laces continued up her legs ending a little above her knee.
Sai looked shocked, as he stared at her. Daisuke’s face rose to a grin as he moved his hand away from his face, and stood his crimson cloak sweeping the floor.
“Mitsuko. How nice to see you.” She stopped beside the bowing Sai, and dropped to one knee, before rising again to throw herself into Daisuke’s arms. She cuddled her face against his own before placing her lips against his own. He broke the kiss, patting the top of her head. “You always know how to cheer me up, don’t you.”
Mitsuko smiled, nodding her head. Sai stood angrily, glaring harshly at her. “Aren’t you supposed to be exiled?”
“I was let off on good behavior.” She said bluntly to Sai, before returning her glance back at Daisuke. “But that whole time I was training. Let me capture Hikage for you my lord, I will return victorious, unlike Sai.”
“I have only failed you once my lord.”
“You have failed me more than once. You were supposed to capture her yourself, but instead you go against my orders and sent Gailladrial instead of yourself. Mitsuko, I’m willing to give you a chance.”
“I will not fail you lord!”
“Sai, you will accompany her. I cannot have her killed.”
“Yes master…” Sai grumbled, as he lead Mitsuko out of the room. This time, they would succeed.
“Gataru, just let her play with it. Obviously she’s not hungry.”
“I want Tetsuri.” Adrial muttered under her breath, tears beginning to form in her eyes.
“Adrial, you know Tetsuri had to stay home today. He’s sick. He didn’t want all of us to get sick too. Gataru is right, you should eat your food, it’ll give you energy.” Hikage sat in a long black dress, with a red obi tied around her waist. Her long black hair was pulled back in a messy bun with two red chopsticks similar to the ones Adrial was using to eat her food. Gataru’s ears twitched unamused that the child always listened to Hikage. Yuzo yawned, and took a drink of his soda before getting up and grabbing Adrial in his arms.
“If you’re not going to eat love, let us go be productive elsewhere. Maybe we can look for the TICKLE MONSTER!” Adrial giggled profusely as Yuzo carried her upstairs leaving Gataru and Hikage alone at the table.
“Daisuke’s planning something. I can feel it. There is a lot of magic heavy in the air.”
“I thought I was the only one sensing it. Good to know that it wasn’t just me. Do you think Tetsuri getting sick was a sign?” Hikage pushed her plate away, staring deeply into Gataru’s eyes. He looked out the window into the darkness.
“I sense power, a lot of it. Something is going to happen soon. I would prefer it if we were the ones making the move and not Daisuke.”
Hikage nodded, before she stood up and tucked her chair back under the table. Small tendrils of her hair curled around her cheeks, framing her pale face. She moved her hand and black magic poured from her fingers. They gathered all the plates into a stack, and she moved them into the sink in the kitchen. “I’ve gotten stronger. I’ve never felt so full of power.”
“It’s because now you’re not reckless. You have people to protect. Things to lose.” Gataru moved from the table and ran a hand through his hair. He turned and saw Hikage’s gaze locked on his. Her eyes were watery, and looked like she was about to cry.
“That’s what I’m worried about…goodnight.” She moved past him slowly at first, then broke into a run up the stairs to her room.
“OH! I FOUND HIM!” Yuzo popped up hands ready for tickling only to see that Adrial was no longer in the room with him. “Adrial? Where’d you go?” He muttered scratching his head.
“Man this sucks. I feel horrible.” He mumbled pathetically blowing his nose again.
“You know why, don’t you?”
Tetsuri jerked upwards at the familiar voice. He had heard that voice before, it sounded so familiar. He held his head from the dizziness that had come from his sudden movement. “Who’s there?”
Gailladrial moved into view, her black kimono matching the darkness of her hair and eyes. The only thing that stood out was the redness of her obi.
“Evening Tetsuri.”
“Gailladrial! What are you doing here? You’re supposed to be dead!”
“Now now, I’m not going to hurt you. I actually have a thing for you now, isn’t it ironic?” She moved towards him, hovering her lips close to his. “You know the best way to get rid of a cold is for someone else to steal it away…” She pressed her lips against his and held for a moment before he pushed her away. She laughed. “You’ve gotten a lot stronger now Tetsuri, you’re sick because of your power. The salamander runs deep within you.”
“What? You mean the one that I met at camp? That’s the reason I’m sick?”
“The Salamander acknowledged you as a holder of its power, thus strengthening your power. You need to learn to harness it, and that’s why I’m here.” Gailladrial moved away from him and towards a candle he had on his desk. She picked it up in her hands, and Tetsuri noticed that they were burned.
“Did I-“
“Yes. I will have these scars as a lesson of what I was, and what I have now become. Look at the candle I hold between my fingers. Light it.”
“But, I’m afraid that I’ll burn you again, I’m sick, and I’m not very good with my powers. I’ve only had to use them a few times, but never to the extent of when-“ He became silent because saying since you died sounded a little tacky.
“I understand. Although, my scars and our past together gives you more reason to focus and not hurt me again.” Her black eyes shone with confidence. Tetsuri knew that she had put her faith and trust in him for him to light that candle. He winced and moved his hand weakly from under the covers. Beads of sweat were on his pale hand from his fever. The tips of his fingers began to glow red, before ravenous flames gathered at each of his fingers. He stared at them before they shot from his fingers and straight towards Gailladrial. She shut her eyes tightly, biting her lip in fear.
The hot wax falling on her bare skin was what made her eyes shoot open. She looked down and in her hands was a flame that blazed with an almost unbearable heat. The flame was so bright and hot that the wax was melting quickly.
“Now,” she said locking her eyes with Tetsuri’s, “Call the flame back to you.”
“But how? I’ve never done that before!”
“Just try.”
He nodded, squinting his eyes from the bright flame. By the minute it came closer and closer to Gailladrial’s hands. No. He wouldn’t hurt her again. He raised his hand more confidently this time, and opened his fist finger by finger. The flame from the candle was just about to touch Gailladrial’s skin when it swirled back in a trail into Tetsuri’s palm. Gailladrial slumped with a sigh to the floor, hugging her hands to her chest. It was hard to confront the thing that killed you previously. A hand appeared before her, and she turned her glance upward.
Tetsuri stood before her in his pajamas, rings of fire swirling around him. His normal color had returned to him, and he had no need for his glasses. His black hair flew from the warm heat of the swirling flames that orbited his body.
“You’re ready. You have controlled your powers. Now you must refine them. Come, there is someone you must show.” Gailladrial took his hand and stood, escorted him to the window. Her one bat wing and raven wing burst from her back, as she smiled grabbed him in a hug and took off into the night.
Hikage raised her head from her book. She arose from bed, and slipped on her black silk robe tying the belt around her quickly. Hustling down the stairs, she called out. “Coming! Just a second!” She unlocked the door and opened it.
“Hi-chan!” Adrial’s small hands clasped around Hikage’s legs, bursting from her place on the doorstep.
“What the- Adrial, how’d you get outside? Where did you go?” Adrial looked up at Hikage and she smiled.
“I went to visit somebody! I brought you back something!” She scampered inside giggling leaving Hikage on the front step with a weird look on her face. When Hikage turned back around towards the door, she was face to face with Tetsuri. He had changed somehow though, his eyes held more knowledge and he looked mature and wise.
Let’s not forget handsome.
He carried himself as if he were a different person. He walked confident, and he no longer wore glasses. Hikage’s breath caught in her throat as she stared at him. He looked at her with solemn eyes.
“Hikage, Daisuke’s sending minions. Powerful ones.” He looked at her, and Hikage had never seen him look so serious. “We have to be prepared, because they can show up at any second.”
Hikage nodded, knowing their time of peace and silence was coming to a short end.
